Local hero had a couple thousand acres of canola in and up... will see how it fared in a few days I guess.

      I hear you.

It is May 5 , so long as seed is in the ground by the end of May.

Can’t wait for it to warm up, it would really dry out fast and leave stranded ungerminated seed. Or just as bad late May frost. Pick the poison, some one is always right, and their not right all the time either.

Calendar says go, weather forecaster might get tomorrow’s weather right.

I’ll continue to weigh the options and situation, with soil temp, weather forecasts, and calendar.

We have a short growing season where it’s much easier to look at the current situation and determine what the risks are. The intangible or I should say unknown is when we receive the first killing frost in the fall. We are well overdue now for a early frost event.

        Question of the day,
“ if you could seed your whole farm on one day, what date would that be?” All things considered.

        Central sask May 5 here
        May 5 th sw also

May 5, 2019 lowest daily high since April 6.
Don't think we cracked 4C today.
37 year record for this date.

          I think...

Right date May 6 -June 6, whenever soil temps and weather cooperate. Never one date in last 50 years was the only and right one. Frost in Early June on 4-6 leaf canola was the most damaging.

Hobby that’s why you title fits you have know clue about farming.

Never have we seeded canola in April let alone first 7 days of May. That’s since the 60s.

                          But what do I know.

These will be the same guys crying with flea beetle problems or dead froZen canola or poor seed treatment.

But hey it’s great to be first done seeding so you can tell every one look at me.
