    Trump Aids Farmers

Trump uses tariff money from China, buys $15B worth of Us farm products and donates the food aid to starving countries. WOW. A thinking politician. Hammers the Chinese, supports farmers and helps poor people all at the same time.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/10/trumps-new-plan-to-aid-farmers-faces-many-hurdles-says-ex-usda-chief.html Trump's new plan to aid American farmers

Perdue didn't offer further details on a possible plan but Trump via Twitter on Friday indicated that the U.S. could use some of the money from tariffs on Chinese goods to buy $15 billion worth of agricultural products from American farmers, or "far more than China buys now." The president also said U.S. agricultural products could be shopped "to poor & starving countries in the form of humanitarian assistance."

I think we have an answer to how shit should get done. You have a surplus the buyer thinks they are so smart well F#$K them and give it away to feed the poor.

    Might work.

China does not play fair and our gay caballero can't figure that out. He is more important things to get done like taking all our guns and having gay pride and apologizing to everyone on earth except Canadians.

Except it doesn't - these policies were largely abandoned in the 1980s once they realised it had a terrible negative effect on the 3rd world countries own agriculture sectors. All the previous efforts to educate and help growers in these countries to become self sufficient are sabotaged when you dump a lot of free food in their country. Put all the farmers there out of business overnight then the whole country is sitting waiting on all their food being donated from overseas.
Where are all your cries of "socialism" now? Subsidizing farmers to produce and then making entire countries dependant on welfare handouts in the process - I guess it's all different if Don the Con does it.

Paying farmers here and giving the product away to the starving is a better solution than writing a cheque to a third world dictator....

But many don't see it that way as Dave4441 said in another thread....[B]
SPG spends alot of money on communication. I don't know the number but it is huge. But they could spend the entire budget and people would say they don't communicate enough.

Giving food away to starving people is not the basis of an industry. It is done in the USA under PL480 and expensive way to provide aid. Great for the trade but not sure it helps growers/B]

And he has more politicians ears than any of us..

Grassfarmer concurred with that as well...

Well guess what the american farmer is going to get paid for their leader's strategy of dealing with China...we are not and western Canadian farmers are going to be forced to use their equity to compete against the US treasury...it is ****ing retarded ..

Its about time that Saskpulse, pulsecanada, and the canola council of canada stop saying they are looking for market driven solutions....because the market is highly subsidized ....and that is where our products get their price in one form or another....

Don't want money from the government ...send the cheque back.....you don't see A market driven industry like the Steel or auto industries giving the cheque back when shit hits the fan....do you see Nature Conservancy sending the 100 million ??????

I wish farm leaders would look at what other industries in the economy extract from taxpayers in what is called a market based economy....

Better to give cash i guess ?
So they can buy more guns
Most of this cash trudope and others hand out never gets to the people that need it
Just like our native situation here
A few super wealthy chiefs and their families and native politicians is about all there is to show for all the billions they get

...Other than to say the money idiots like Trudeau have written the cheque for third world dictators ...end up buying FSU food aid at a discounted price....

Trump knows everything has been tried in these 3rd world places. Tried to restore laws and democracy and infrastructure, funded armies and police to restore order. Sent in mega cash - 4T into Afganistan alone. Brought 1st world tech into help out. Nope these are still sh*tholes mired in tribal and religious conflict forever. Might as well just dump food on them and hope they dont kill each other.

You’re damned you do and damned you don’t. You’ll never “fix” tribal shitholes and their internecine problems looking at it from a first world point of view. You can’t pick sides as alliances change frequently and bad feelings last for generations. Humans tribal mentality is the same everywhere whether in Africa, the Middle East, or reserve band council in Saskatchewan. It is the basic level of human society from which all of our ancestors emerged. As food production became more centralized it allowed for large permanent settlements to emerge. The simple tribal structure could not handle managing larger civilizations. Hence the emergence of government in all its forms. Some places never quite got to that point because largely of where they live. No racial biases here just a fact of location. No different than the crazy highlanders of Scotland. If it wasn’t for the clearances they’d still probably would never have done much. Wild land makes wild people.

That's a rather benevolent view of actions that weren't really so benevolent - more about securing resources and sustaining the US military-industrial complex.
I guess the consensus from the posters is that socialism is Ok after all - as long as they are on the receiving end of some of the benefits.

Not socialism if the chinese are paying for it.

tarrifs are just the exact same thing as carbon tax. Change behavior, look for cheaper alternatives. Eventually it will be too expensive to import chinese washing machines and someone will make them here again.

To use the quote often attributed to Mrs Thatcher "The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money". Doesn't matter whose money you're spending it's still socialism. In this case it would be running out of American businessmen's money though as the Chinese are most definitely not the ones paying the tariffs.
Good to see you acknowledging the role and effectiveness of a carbon tax though.
