    AMS and Climate Change

Climate Change is among the most pressing issues facing the world today.

Humans are causing climate to change and it poses numerous serious risks. The more carbon we emit, the higher the carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere will be and the larger the changes in climate we'll face. Based on our current path, a child who is born today would, at age 30, breath air with roughly twice as much carbon dioxide as her great, great grandparents. And yet, we do not know how much carbon we can emit safely and we cannot know in advance when human-caused climate changes will lead to catastrophic societal consequences. We do know that we are seeing some of these consequences today, including increases in global temperatures, melting ice caps, and rising global sea levels.

These are conclusions based on multiple independent lines of evidence that have been gathered over decades of intensive scientific research. They are affirmed, and reaffirmed by numerous leading scientific institutions around the world, including AMS.

For example, the official AMS statement on Climate Change, reads in part, “Warming of the climate system now is unequivocal, according to many different kinds of evidence.” It goes on to say, “It is clear from extensive scientific evidence that the dominant cause of the rapid change in climate of the past half century is human-induced increases in the amount of atmospheric greenhouse gases …”

Similar conclusions have been reached by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the National Academies of more than 30 other countries, other scientific societies, including AGU and AAAS. We know of no scientific institution with relevant subject matter expertise that disagrees with these basic conclusions.

Professor Phil Jones Director of the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) University of East Anglia, Norwich

Phil Jones, the beleaguered British climate scientist at the centre of the leaked emails controversy, is facing fresh claims that he sought to hide problems in key temperature data on which some of his work was based.

A Guardian investigation of thousands of emails and documents apparently hacked from the University of East Anglia's climatic research unit has found evidence that a series of measurements from Chinese weather stations were seriously flawed and that documents relating to them could not be produced.

A new batch of 5,000 emails among scientists central to the assertion that humans are causing a global warming crisis were anonymously released to the public yesterday, igniting a new firestorm of controversy nearly two years to the day after similar emails ignited the Climategate scandal.

Three themes are emerging from the newly released emails: (1) prominent scientists central to the global warming debate are taking measures to conceal rather than disseminate underlying data and discussions; (2) these scientists view global warming as a political “cause” rather than a balanced scientific inquiry and (3) many of these scientists frankly admit to each other that much of the science is weak and dependent on deliberate manipulation of facts and data.

Regarding scientific transparency, a defining characteristic of science is the open sharing of scientific data, theories and procedures so that independent parties, and especially skeptics of a particular theory or hypothesis, can replicate and validate asserted experiments or observations. Emails between Climategate scientists, however, show a concerted effort to hide rather than disseminate underlying evidence and procedures.

Heard same SHIT 30 years ago, Florida still building right up to the water!
Coldest February in 80 years! Oh right caused by Global Warming/Climate Change too much CO2, oops that is supposed to raise temps and burn us to cinders in 12, no now 11 years.
Thank God the Ice all melted, how would we live in an ICE WORLD?
Humanity prospers in warmer times, declines in colder times.

Where are the references or links for the above posts? All my posts have links to who said them and from which organizations they came from. Without that they are statements that could have been made by anybody and taken out of context.

And further suggesting that all climate science is suspect is just the usual denier BS. Grasping at straws.

Elvis was sighted on Agriville. And looking out the kitchen the world appears to be flat! I aint going to believe in no science that I can't confirm myself!

No doubt NASA, NOAA and AMS and Environment Canada are just a bunch of left wing environmentalists! Preston Manning too. LOL

Maybe you haven't figured out that humans are not too smart?

              No flooding in Florida? hahaahaha

NOAA, okay read and understand why Temps are NOT accurate, NOT believable, FULL of errors, planet wide. None is a calculation to tenths of a degree...BS BS BS

Verified by NOAA – poor weather station siting leads to artificial long term warming

If you and your socialist governments honestly believe that the world is going to fall apart that quick why don’t they do something about beside tax . For instance They claim biodiesel from canola is cleaner then let’s start burning it at a much larger rate .make it possible for everyone to buy solar panels put the carbon tax to all renewable sources .the truth of the Matter is its only a tax grab Canada useing 110 million litres a day in only gasoline government just raking in the doe . The only way your going to stop people from using gas and power is break them putting a carbon tax is like giving a drunk driver a 10 dollar fine

Correct, but they are so smart to sneak up on it, like the joke, "the cat is on the roof", or the frog in pot of warming water, we won't notice the tax going up!

Turdo #1 main reason for going metric was to make fuel into liters, tiny little liters so a few cents increase no big deal till you calculate into GALLONS, the SOB!
Curse the old bastard every time I pick up a metric wrench...
