Hot, hot hotter and windy and hot. We don't need to pay for the weather. The JD weather station at least for its cost makes you feel happy with the reading No problem the top 1 in is dry but 3 meters down its good to go.

Seeding is over for the most part for our area this week. We finished on Sunday night with Canola and now wait for rain.

The early seeded fields from April are starting to fill in nice but they have three to four stages. Frost was happening Saturday to the north of us and Sunday to the south. From Regina to the valley. North got to 1 or lower but not as long and not as cold. Some are reseeding thousands of acres. But with it being as dry as it is will anything really grow till we get that rain.

Speaking of rain the house in Regina had rain and hail and what seemed like lots of moisture. Well looked at my lawn last night and it is very dry. So was it just a fast quick hard rain that just filled low areas and ran away. I'm thinking that's what happened.

Now I gauge everything on our sand ridge for how long we need to go before we have an issue. The result yesterday was 10 days. Yes in the next 10 days we need rain and a good rain or you can give up on the idea of a big crop and focus on average to below. Yield in wheat is made in the 3 to 5 leaf stage and a suffering plant doesn't help out.

Canola well the shit show continues with the cold ground then winds that dried the ground then hard freeze and finally no rain and the ones who did pop out the flea beetles love the taste. Well, see boys all these new chemicals are just plain shit. Spend spend and spend is the merry go round.

So what are most guys doing right now.

Seeding is wrapped up and now some are going back like we did yesterday and seed the spots we left because they were to wet. Fill the tree compartments and fert granular and go. So got a few more acres.
Lots of fields are up and back again. Stone picking was happening as some rocks did pop out and some spots that were wet haven't been piked for years so a clean up year.

Very little spraying is happening and that is the question on all farmers minds now what to spray or do. Fields for most part are clean except early seeded peas and wheat as burn off did not do anything.

Lots will go 24D and basic wild oats chemical if no more rain happens. Peas we might go just with Centurian or post and that's it.

Canola we are spot spraying with liberty flats or problem areas right now and will do the two pass again if needed but one looks like all it will get.

Fire is a problem and this time it hurt some of our fields. Started a mile away on a back road and burnt at night slowly down. In moring it picked up and when it hit the wheat stubble with peas it took off like a bat out of hell. 60 acres burnt before we and neighbours got it out. Will it come back will it die is the shit show salvageable. Is the ground now to dry and that's a wrap. It sucks but we will leave for a week and then decide.

    Yea that sucks.

So with rain pushed back and is now maybe 10 days out 2019 is not looking so good. The China thing is not even on most farmers radar, as drought has taken hold. Yes some got the lucky rain lotto last friday and any where from 2 mm to 25 were handed out. We got zero and our total for the year stands at the 1.25 inch since the snow left. Yes the station is right the next 3 meters have good moisture. But Canola needs water to get going. So the next week is very important and as of today the forcast is 31 and hot. Good luck boys and watch your neighbours as the stress level just went up a level or two now that seeding is done.

Be safe and remember its just a crop that they are going to get for nothing and you did all the work and this year might not have a penny left for you and your family.

Yes things look ok yesterday but the next week will tell the tale. Rain is needed. Now i took a drive to the lake to deliver the golf cart then went north to Canora and over to Kelvington and then south to lipton. Wow is it dry the creeks are just a trickle and our lake is low. Nothing looks green or lush any place.

Pastures are having a tough time and guys are looking real hard for grass land. Cant go north or south or east or west.

So every creek or ravine is being used.

This is how I see the federal Gov dealing with the China situation since they won't even take our calls. Sad really and we farmers are promised a loan with a big number so the city people think its all great. Million is talk in the cities yet the sound bite that no one is picking up on is it is a load. Plus the federal liberals are having issues getting it put in place and now it might not be till July. What a shit show we have. Oh, wait Ralphy had a comment yesterday or on weekend about another pillar in the farmers/feds/prov toolbox to help. Yea like it will be out when? Ah, October I bet. Political games continue.

Now it just amazes me how some criticize everything I post and show charts and pictures and slides and quotes. Yet these same people post nothing of substance just cut down and cut down some more. Hell spelling is so important on this site by some its not even funny. But like politics let the haters hate.

Maybe I should go to Mosaic in Regina this weekend and attend the Scottish pavilion and get cultured on proper spelling. Oh, wait for it's about drinking and eating and actually enjoying life not worrying about the small stuff. Yea I think I'll have a pint or two and enjoy time with family and friends.

One last picture flowers from the pasture.

And if God or Alaha or whatever you believe in won't make it rain. Hell, the boys are doing a rain dance and that isn't even working. You some times have to take matters into your own hand and let it rain boys let it rain. Garden gets 3000 plus gal and what a beautiful sight. And it smells so fresh.

Wht is in 2 leaves and holding..
Early canola more even but has frost damage.
The straight cut varieties might be a life saver at harvest time with weeks apart in germ..
Sure glad we didn't buy more bins..

you see the bins lined up in every single co-op yard ??
                  melfort & nipawin is unbelievable
me thinks may be some good deals on bins that nobody will need
everyone banked on farmers carrying half their crop over
guess they never read any of the drought predictions

Today? How many do you want, anytime.
                        Some reseeding canola from bugs.
                        Good start to everything.
                        For now.......

Forget the crops, has anyone noticed how hard a time the trees are having getting their leaves out. Its May 30 and we still have bare branches on a lot of trees. What a fd up year already.

I wouldn't hold my breath on bin deals....Co-OP has enough money to carry them over and steel keeps going up like everything else.
