    Cattle futures . . . .

Feeder cattle futures trending down with the lack of corn acres south and probable feed shortage in Canada, it dropped 4 1/2 cents today, not a good sign for fall calf prices but a lot can change in 4 or 5 months. Any one with barley seeded may be nicely rewarded if it ever decides to rain.

Are you thinking the dry conditions will lead to increased selling?

I’m thinking alfalfa and hay bale prices will be strong towards winter.

This was forecasted to be the bottom of the cycle in 2015. Lack of feed supplies will make it worse. But this will trigger a lot of the old stock cattlemen to leave or drastically downsize; industry will contract and cycle will turn the next couple of years. Too many 70 and 80 year olds that are producing cattle for the market to just have something to do, not make a profit.

It could get ugly I don’t remember seeing so many pastures in poor condition even compared to 02. People are starting to unload grassers either because of lack of grass or possibly a soft fall market.
