Husky fined $3.8M for 2016 oil spill into North Saskatchewan River

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/husky-energy-pipeline-oil-spill-court-hearing-1.5171779

$3.8 Million is a slap on the wrist for Husky considering they dumped a lot of oil into a major river system and affected tens of thousands residents and a large area.

This puny fine just means business as usual for Husky.

The fine should have been $38 million or $380 Million so that Husky and other Pipeline companies get serious about preventing spills.

Maybe you should pay $5000 for auto insurance to prevent a car accident.

What should the fines be for city of Victoria and Montreal who pump human sewage effluent into oceans every day of the yr for decades?

Or maybe your liability should go up because of an accident your granny had 30 years ago.

        1400 barrels. It's over.
New bores go much deeper if you'd read the article

I know, let's break that evil *** Husky so in the future we can have some Chinese or Saudi or Russian company to deal with.

Wonder how many $$ it really cost Husky in the end. A lot!!

The petro state goes soft on the oil industry when it breaks the law! What happened to the get tough on crime attitude?

Too many gutless politicians kissing the oil industries ass.

Thousands of oil wells suspended, abandoned, orphaned and the taxpayers are going to pay billions to clean them up?

Privatize the profits and make the taxpayers clean up the mess? Looks like corporate socialism. Another subsidy to the oil indsutry? Take the money and run that is the motto!

This is the kind of third world corruption we live with in this country.

Yes, better clean up. But now we're over the top with new specs. Creating it's own breed of inefficiencies.

I know the crew that run private river boats the past two years .
They found virtually nothing anywhere up and down the river from west of here to PA.
They watched every hr they inspected that river .
Not defending Husky but why the cry 😢 for more of a lawsuit ??? All that will do is jack up the price of gas at the pump .
I get it chuck , you hate big oil .... but I am guessing if one of those steam plants was on you land with mineral rights .... we would not hear boo from you.

An act of god accident on a pipeline is a crime but willingly dumping effluent right into habitable waters is just business? Right chuck.

Virtually zero oil , sludge , anything at all was found along that entire length of river. And it’s been scoured relentless for two years ....... that’s a fact .

There are several pending lawsuits by “various” groups , but they are simply ambulance chasers , no different than the Monsanto lawsuits for the most part .

That spill cost Husky $100 million. The effort they went to clean it up was above and beyond what they had to do.

Pipelines that cross rivers should be bulletproof and have numerous backup prevention system in place.

If you are profitable enough like integrated oil companies such as Husky are, then do it right or step aside.

Water pollution by oil companies or cities releasing raw sewage is unacceptable - end of story. Do it right or step aside. The world is not ours alone to shit in and on.

We are rich enough to do it right in this country. But many taxpayers want all the services, infrastructure and advantages but don't want to pay for it or take care of our natural resources.

Those who shit in their own water lead a short and shitty life.
