We hold the rest of the country hostage.
First, while we are still in a position of relative strength, with options, we negotiate with the US for terms of acceptance into the union, then widely publicise that this option is real and tangible, plus potentially imminent. Lay out what effect that will have on tax revenues, equalization payments, social programs, currency, confidence, investments etc.
Threaten that if Trudeau ( or any future leader with the same last name) is re-elected, then secession will begin the day after the election.
Provide a list of demands to the other parties, and at this point, none of them could do worse than Trudeau. They must campaign on meeting those demands, and they must be their only priorities once in government. These would include overturning every piece of anti-industry and anti-business legislation enacted by the current government, the end of equalization, criminalizing (retroactively ideally) any act whose sole purpose is to obstruct resource development, including and especially funding of those acts. Removing activist judges under the same legislation. Mandating that all current and future taxes and regulations must be aligned with our largest trading partner or be more competitive. Failure to do so will result in immediate secession.
Based on the previous election, and the positions of the extreme left posters who daily display their ignorance on Agriville, I don't have a lot of faith that Canadian voters would have the common sense to accept the consequences that western secession would have on their quality of life going forward, and do the right thing, so most probably, separation is all but assured, but it is worth a try to hold it all together.
