Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Ah, June wet weather arrived so who do we thank? My bad arthritis knee or the spleen guy, Farm Progress show Or DTN.

It proved it can rain but still a funny weather pattern and some still haven't got much at all. Farming is the worlds biggest gamble, you put everything into 6 plus inches of Dirt and look to the sky for the rain to grow a crop. Then mother nature picks the winners and losers.

So last Saturday I had to attend a friends funeral up north and I decided to make a trip from the lake (Canora) to look at a drill on way, then over to Melfort and down back to Regina. Wow is there a lot of shitty looking crops. Finally, just outside Tisdale, I found the perfect section of Canola a 10 out of 10. Big beautiful leaves and thick from end to end. The Rest I have to honestly say all way up and back look like shit. Uneven and every stage or like one neighbour says 26 stages.

For those who want a slap in the face with reality on how poor crops can look take a drive north of Regina all way to Dafoe. Cereals that have maybe 100 ft green then 1000. But rain is desperate for that area and they didn't get the huge rain's in the last two weeks.

Nicest Winter wheat field is between Tisdale and Melfort. Its a 9 out of 10 and fully headed.

So here we go the Crop Report.

Wheat is anywhere from just heading to flag to just poking out of the ground. The rain events our area had caused seeds that didn't germinate to come finally up. Now we had the three-inch rain two weeks ago so those who got last week will see rows next week. The early April seeded crop is now starting to head. The first heads are smaller and these crops are thinner. The rain was about two weeks too late. Will they do ok? Yes but the big yields have left the building. Basically, it looks like all who seeded in April have thinner crops. Those seeded after the 15th of may are more even in our area and thicker, healthier and stronger for potential. But were farmers when its go time you go. All our wheat seeded early is like all others. Later looks way better. One note anyone who sprayed last week seems to have a big volunteer canola problem coming in cereals seeded on Canola stubble. The little suckers are coming up strong. Some are going back and doing a 24D spray. I said I would start rating the crop so as of this week with the two stages of growth I say quality come fall could be an issue but time will tell. Most are done spraying for wild oats and now some are on way for the second app for broadleafs that arrived after the rain. Wheat is a 7 so far due to uneven crop and it was hurt in the 3 to 5 leaf time period.

Barley is the same with two to three stages in the crop. It will make malt a more interesting game. Yea you may as well piss in the sample and send it for feed because they will pick it apart. I give the barley a 7 out of 10 for this time of year. The rain has caused some areas to look a little yellow and that will affect the final outcome.

Peas and Lentils are filling in nicely. Peas you can spot Viper problems from the road you don't need to get out of your vehicle and walk in. The cool night a few weeks ago hurt and so did the rain after. They are recovering slowly but two weeks is lost. I am happy I changed to Very low rate pursuit and full Centurian. Pea price is still in the shitter and the grain companies still are moving the same amount as when we actually got paid for the product. Winners are always the grain companies and farmers get the shaft for trade issues. Thank a liberal. Ralph, you voted against western Canada every single time you are a traitor to your constituents. Oh off topic but it frosts me that Car was on TV saying the meat and grain things were not caused by the Gov.

Peas are a 7 so far as they are even and growing nicely with no signs of disease etc. Some are spraying again the peas as weeds are coming on strong.

Flax is up and thinner than usual, guys are spraying this week and getting fields looking better.

Oats is the same as barley three to four stages in crop and guys will spray probably next week.

Corn only a few who have cattle.

Soy I have only seen one field so far in my travels. I am glad Cargill spent Millions building a seed treatment facility for soy at our Terminal only to sit with no use this year. Our Dryer is finished and they need more storage but no they put money into Soy. It was going to revolutionize the province. Yea expensive seed and piss poor yield kind of do that.

Canola the retarded sister is having one heck of a tough year. First, the experts were the province will be wall to wall Canola by 2020. It is a crop that can be grown all over (in the wet year's). Then the bullshit dream sequence that farmers grew so much the previous years we have a glut. HA HAHAHAHAHAHA. This is the biggest crock that was pulled over the market in years. So we enter 2019 seeding and the market still thinks farmers will grow. Well, I had neighbours who said the seed was too expensive and with the China thing they were switching to lentils, peas, Flax and barley. Cutting costs and I have always said the Canola pigs have driven the cost of seed to insane prices. The seed treatments are a F#KINg Joke. It's an overpriced shit show. Thank the Industry for destroying Canola. Pigs at the trough.

Now they are surprised with the lower seeded acreage number. Well, boys, it's even lower than that. I have heard from guys who instead of reseeding after the frost a few weeks ago. Plowed it into Barley or Oats and left the canola seed at the dealers. Bags did go back after seeding. Also abandoned acreage is going to be higher than the experts looking out a window are calculating. But hey drop the price because it rained for F#K sakes. But the market knows Jack Shit.

Like I said travelling one Section a 10 for the end of June. HAHAHA, its a barn burner crop on its way better takes the premium out of the market. What F#King Premium.

To all the experts who bragged it can be grown any place in this new climate with rain. Well, the Canola looks good at Tisdale and why is the town known as the land of **** and honey.

So on our farm, I give the Canola a 6. The only reason I give our area a 6 is the 1/2 in rain over three weeks ago that got the crop off and running. But reality provincial wide is the crop is in three to 7 stages and time is not on our side. July 1st is Monday and some is just poking out of the ground. She has a long way to the bin boys. Good luck we are going to need it.

Five picture rule sucks. Sorry, but it does.

Ok, what has our shit for brains Pm done this week. The Answer is nothing we get hit with a shut down to China for Pork then its now escalated to all meat. Funny thing is the Chinees are saying it's over false documents, yea like their shit selling back to Canada that is probably made from horses or whatever. Maybe its time to quit buying cheap Chinese shit. Call it what it is its crap. everywhere from tables to toys to cloaths its all shit. Trumps American made and cost more is true at least your getting quality not knock off shit.

Trudeau attends a gay pride parade and doesn't send anyone to meet the body of the soldier who died sky diving in Afghanistan. Priorities for this PM.

Then we have Ralph who decides at the last minute to run again. It's close in Wascana this time but he must think there are enough suckers to win another term. Well, Ralph brings it on we have a whole crew who is going door to door and asking Name one time Ralph voted for the Voters in his own riding of Wascana. Everything he voted on is to destroy western Canada and you want to reward such a failure. This man needs to be sent packing and sent packing in a big way.

Trudeau will team up with the greens and NDP the plan is in play watch it unfold.

Canada could be great but when two provinces hold the balance of power we have a shit show. Welcome to Canada this July 1st might be the beginning of a new chapter. Thank a Liberal and Trudeau.

This thing made by a guy from Raymore works great, way better than two spray jugs. Water and Sandpoint system for the sprayer. Farm progress show purchase. The Fire gun for the sprayer seemed high. Didn't buy.

So as another week ticks by and summer are nowhere. AG Inmotion is the next farm show. Always a good one and interesting stuff to see. Summer is time to relax and enjoy as Saskatchewan summers are really great. This year spraying might affect lots of summer plans but we farm it's our job.

Please tell what you see in your area as this crop report is what I see in an area from Regina to Canora.

I only have 2 stages of canola. Out of the ground and not out of the ground. Spraying and praying. Wish I would have seeded flax instead. Its $5 a bu more than canola right now.

Some guys got their canola going nicely in high stubble. Other seeded into powder and it didn't come until now. Patchy filling in slowly but all of it is late. Lentils look very nice around here. Lot of these chicks in the ground and they don't look that great. Thin little plants don't seem to be growing much even with rain. Been 25yrs since we were into chicks and cant remember if they fill in fast or what.

Cereals in 2 stages, early and little later. Later has the win here. Early stuff heading out month too soon.

        Finished spraying yesterday.
Considering the ruff start our crops look Good enough.
If you farm long enough you will see it all..one of those yrs.
        See what harvest will bring?
We did our best..the rest is up to timely rains and a real late frost for most..

I agree with both. It's Farming and some years you look like a winner and the next five it's like WTF else can go wrong.

One good piece of news India dropped the tariffs on Peas.

          Yea.

Will the grain companies acknowledge they SCREWED US FOR YEARS and give us a few scraps or will they make a bullshit story that peas are now at $6.50 get used to it Mr stupid farmer it's our time to make big money.

I think that sums it up for many. Except those unfortunate to be to dry or wet beyond a chance!

What is the product called from Raymore for helping pump out of a dugout?

                  It looks interesting.

Early wheat a dud here. Headed out with average sized heads but not very many, dropped most tillers. Early canola thin but is filling in, would say the rain was just in time. Should be full flower next week. Late canola will be a monster crop. Same with later wheat.

Have been hearing lots of carryover of chemical on the pea stubbles. Careful what you plant next year if you are on the dry side and like spraying SF3’s favourite chemical.....

Have a bunch of varieties of wheat seeded, also have bunch of canola varieties seeded. Always like to see how each develop but in the end the combine tells you which one is the best.
