    who is responsible????

Not going to blame anyone but the ball was dropped somewhere with this beef export ban from China.

But considering the issues wouldn't someone have said we have to be even more careful...

IS this going to fall on the primary cow calf guy in the end??? Poor ****ers have been drought and selling cows and now a potential loss of market....Is it their fault???

Maybe grass farmer can happily go it on his own but what about the young guys just starting their herds????

This isn't being negative ....but when does this government get it that this will hurt the primary producer again????

    Grain farmers took it dry.....

This is what you get when you have limp wristed weak dishonest leadership who has offended our best ally with its pathetic virtue signalling.

What makes you think the government doesn't get it that this will hurt the primary producer again? It's an emerging crisis sparked primarily by Trump's reckless trade war campaign and Canada is suffering the collateral damage. If they confirm this company in Quebec has been forging export certificates they should be severely penalized for sure. There are no easy solutions to this.
If it lasts any period of time of course it will cost primary producers, me included - if it drops fat cattle values $100 a head you can be sure the entire $100 will come off the price a fat steer brings. There will be absolutely no "cost sharing" of the loss between cattle producers, packers and exporters. That's why I have worked hard over the years with the NFU to fight corporate concentration in agriculture. That's also why your usual suggestion of a bail out won't work. Give the cattle producer $100 to compensate for the $100 they lost and the packers will drop their bid another $100. It's happened before and it'll happen again. You can be sure also that the exporting companies will be compensated for any product they have to destroy or bring back from, or en route to, China.
That's just the way it is under the set up that has been allowed to exist under both Liberal and Conservative governments yet I get constantly ridiculed for belonging to the one farm organisation that tries to change the status quo. It seems many of you are fair weather free-marketers but when things go sour you're queueing up for the welfare handouts and still calling me the socialist.

Just a question would the UFCW lower their wages to be in solidarity with us cow - calf guys if the packers lowered the price of fats a hundred bucks.

Sadly who ever probably won't feel the most pain. And there lies the problem these days.

I must be missing somwthing, why is it with Trump, everything is trade barriers and if Chinaman blocks an American product, he blocks 2 of theirs. China has basically shut off western ag without a wimper out of dipshit in Ottawa

Likely not, but then again neither would the Conservative voting auction mart owners or the cattle truckers so I'm not sure the point of your comment?

Some of those middle man scenarios we can control somewhat ourselves the unions and packers not so much. That is why government should be there for support to fight against the trade issues .

Must be very sad going to life thinking everyone is conspiring against you. Is likely a very good thing that you have the Like-minded victims with in the NFU for moral support. That type of mind set can drag a person down to desperation in a hurry. And I say this in genuine concern, see it end badly all too often, please don't hesitate to get help at any time.
