Fungicide on Barley

Have been using Quilt and seeing excellent results just before heading. It’s a “cheaper” fungicide, wondering what else works well.
On test strips on average see 8-12 more kernels per head after application.

Only used fungicide once a number of years ago on wheat and some barley. This year have a bunch of oats in so thinking about doing them at least. I used quilt the last time and think it made a big difference on the sws and cps. Last year neighbours seen a 30 bu difference on oats but don’t know what they used.

In our area we usually have wet crops from dew or rain. But weather helps me decide.

Peas yes I spray

Barley yes I spray

Wheat some times on all or some or none.

Canola some times

Oats yes

We use Caramba. Quality is what we're after. It has worked for us so far keeping fusarium and DON levels low to none insistent.

Have used Caramba with success in past. (Nothing this year since it’s so dry.)

One negative about Quilt is it’s owned by ChemChina/Syngenta/Chinese government. 👎

Was wondering when/if someone was going to bring that up. I don’t know what else I could use just before heading?

There are a few options, Folicur certainly works well, very similar to Carumba. As mentioned Twinline or the new BASF product Nexicor. If you feeling really wealthy Prosaro xtr is a god product. Products like Quilt, Twinline, Nexicor and Prosaro have the advantage of containing more than one fungicide group, unfortunately in my opinion all are overpriced!

Will be very interesting to see if fungicide applications delay crop maturity this year .
It is part of plant health for sure to keep diseases off plants . Some products can have a significant effect. Which is a good thing most of the time 👍.
Just looking at a lot of late crops though and nothing in the 2 week temps above 22-23 deg with single digits overnights .
May be a concern , may not be .
Hopefully we all get August heat , cause the balance of July looks coolish is all ..

According to Corteva, Acapela is an option.
At .18L/ acre this would be approximately $8-$10/acre.

(Have never tried this product.)

What are you targeting?

For FHB in barley, your limited to caramba, prosaro, or twinline.

For leaf diseases at flag leaf, quilt is the middle of the pack fungicide. You can swap it for Topnotch which is similar, but contains nearly twice the azoxystrobin for a better value. Trivapro has quilt and a 3rd active which provides 21 days of coverage compared to 14 with quilt. Its a couple bucks more than quilt. Folicur is also a good option.

FHB is not a problem if it is cold and dry and that's what the weather looks like this week here. No Ascochyta spots on pea leaves yet and I wont spray until I see some. Canola if i can't find Apothecia mushrooms I won't spray.

What about CPS or Soft white wheats?
