    Which is why the US has been paying protesters to help block pipelines to the coast and to the east. They want the oil to go south and they want it as cheaply as possible. Why would you mess around in the Middle East when you can just capture Alberta oil. Especially with the large amount now being developed in North Dakota. They should have enough.

      If what you say is true, why would any western Canadian want to leave Canada to join the US. If cheap energy is the goal, the US would certainly not support movement of western Canadian resourses anywhere but south so we would be no better off then we are now.

        I think as a farmer we might be better off...actual support and recognition for our contribution to the economy and the environment...

        Might have less tax, no carbon tax....lower fuel bills and more chemical at less cost...better grain handling and access plus the ****ing graincos would have to report...

        Geez I was sitting on the fence about this western separation but its starting to look pretty good...

                if course we would be better off;

                Commodities denominated in USD
                access to American transport and capital
                15B less equalization to the east
                Congress and senate reps equivalent to the US Midwest states

                We would be richer by 10 times with the stroke of a pen

                  Why would the US buy the cow when they can get the milk for free?

                    Name a politician we have smart enough here to handle separation? Smart enough to handle the native settlement in separation? How would that work with the natives anyway? Lol.

                      Chuck, have you ever raised or disciplined children, trained an animal, or been responsible for motivating employees?
                      If so, did you find that rewarding bad behavior was the best way to discourage that behavior in the future?

                        Because right now the US gets the oil by trade. Ottawa still gets the taxes and US likes to have control of the resource to develop their way. The West has something else US wants. A few million more conservative voters.

                        If the US took over the west so much capital would flow in here it would make your head spin. We would actually get return investment instead of being cash cow for Quebec.

                          I crunched the numbers - it still doesn't work. If you total all the Conservative voters in the 2015 election west of Ontario it only comes to about 2.355 million, add that to the 2016 Republican vote of just under 63 million and Trump would still come up short of the just under 66 million votes the Democrats got at the ballet box. America - land of the free, home of the brave - where the losers win and winners lose!

                            Guess you better brush up on the math then grass because at the county level trump destroyed Clinton. Counties translate to electoral colleges. The moment the west declared intention to join US another few million would move in here tomorrow. A few million more wealthy conservative voters will out way a bunch of illegal immigrants who will be hiding from border control.

                              Funny all the "wealthy Conservative voters" are the same ones crying on here constantly for more Government handouts. It's always the other guy that's the socialist though hey?
