Problem is people only see what they see during their daily commute. Drive from Toronto to Windsor and you see a lot of concrete and lights along the way. 1/3 the population sees this and thinks the whole country is the same. As long as they are willing to pay for it on private land, I am a-ok with it. I've got 50 acres of virgin timber, never been touched, give me $200/acre, every year for eternity and I will gladly protect it for them.

But, this will not be about protecting existing resources. It is be about paperwork and public jobs - plant and grow trees on existing farmland as that is a change that makes for good before/after pictures.

The only nature emergency locally is the alarming rate at which nature is taking over formerly productive farmland. With every acreage and residence and non farmer moving in, it gets worse.
