No, you can't give everybody the same that would be SOCIALIST. It has to be means tested like all the other SOCIALIST welfare programs that all the ANTI-SOCIALIST posters on here routinely condemn. There is a base payment per acre but if you take more than one foreign holiday annually it gets scaled back 25%, more than 2 you lose 50% etc.

We have the convergence of events out of our control, hostile china, fd up PM and a MAGA in the US which caught skippy napping or high. The only payment that would seem logical would be a Canadian version of MFP 1.0 & 2.0.
Canola, lentils, chickpeas, durum, pork are big enough in Quebec so don’t expect anything.

Its pretty simple ....either you support ag as a whole or you don't....don't pit one sector against the other...

Giving canola a half million interest free while other commodities have suffered worse ...not that the loan was a good idea....was picking winners and losers ...

And yet here we sit arguing about whether or not some should get it or not....

While the graincos got 150 million in insurance guarantees...

And Morris industries got 4.1 million.

And AGT got 150 million.

And and and....

The steel industry got a 2 billion dollar promise

Pretty simple, everyone has a Agrinvest account, your deposit and the government's matching contribution is determined by your eligible sales. If you grow a commodity or animal that the price has been affected by these trade disruptions you will have historical data of your sales and get paid accordingly. So if you grow more canola than your neighbor the Chinese ban on imports affects you more than him, but your data shows that so you would be compensated more than him, not equal but fair.

Example: If you historically average $1,000,000.00 worth of canola sales a year and the price of canola has
fallen 20% you should get a $200,000.00 payment deposited into your agrinvest account.

This can be done with any commodity or animal that has been affected. Like I said, not equal but fair, the program is in place already, it could be done tomorrow. A per acre payment is just a recipe for disaster.

I am not a fan of Ad hoc payments either, but i am also not a fan of competing against the American treasury, or being treated like a second class industry when other industries have been given ad hoc payments to help the with the trade disruptions and tariffs. Ag has always been treated like the ugly redheaded step child of the wealth creating industries in this country, and it is because we as a voter base don't matter. Andrew Scheer was on the radio with Gormely the other day, and said that the energy sector was the biggest concern he had in western canada. When pressed a bit , he did say that ag was important too. So don't hold your breath if you think a conservative government cares any more about our industry than the current government.

Yes but how it should work is those that need it have an expense to pay off inputs repairs etc. So other then the tax on those items they get something meaningful. Those that get it that don’t need it yes much will go back as tax but they will still likely spend within their community and the ag circle. This is what some that try justify no payments to farmers forget conveniently to leave out.

I don’t like payments either from gov but when other sectors are getting it or other parts of our sector then fk it too. It’s either you cut out help to everyone else and go further stop other countries from doing it or you end up with foreigners, scammers, government friends, input cap etc controlling and scheming making money off of the rough times of those that put their lives in this racket subsidizing the country with cheap food paying crazy prices to do it. Meanwhile building or have built our rural towns.
