I would add Trump to the list, firstly because, expectations were so pitifully low, that it would be nearly impossible to disappoint, and secondly because he has actually attempted to do what he promised, whether you agree with it or not.

Grant Devine-best Premier and political farm advocate that I am aware. His policies have helped lots of farmers stay on the land and weather financial problems and are still working to this day.

Farming is a tough cyclical business that goes from rags to riches and vice a versa depending on the year (ie:weather and markets) and big events that are beyond the control of the farmer and that has a great financial impact.

Oh the Banks love to lend in the good times, best friends they are, but first sign of trouble, “I’ll take your farm that took 80 years to build and sell it to your neighbour for a loss and blame it on you”.

Grant Devine policies put the Banks into a process that made them behave and work it out and let the good guys that have management skills recover and survive the bad events.

Oh the Banks have complained for years that the farm laws restrict capital to farms and make the interest rates farmers have to pay higher because of the “Saskatchewan Farm Legislation”.

I would rather pay 2% more on money for some protection from a Predatory Lender....which what most Bank become when tough times hit.....including FCC!!

Farming is so very capital intensive and needs so much cash. It’s worse than ever. No lenders are friends of the farmer no matter what the lip service they give.....and the worst part today is that more judges than ever are former Bank farmer clean up lawyers that do not give a shit about farmers and the stupid rules the government put in place to protect them.

If a downturn hits it will be really tough for high leveraged farms to work it out as there is no Grant Devine in the wings to make sure they stay on the land...which is really a good policy for all of this sparsely populated province.

Farms take generations to build. Sometimes maybe junior is too optimistic and borrows too much....or maybe stupid family members who don’t care about the land want their share of money from an estate so they can piss it away living in the city....:and before you know it the farm has to lever up to pay them out....many things cause excess farm debt and unfortunately this industry needs some form of Goverment help and understanding to make policies that help smooth out the extremes...:.we seem to lack these people at this point in time.

One of the conservative right parties is newly formed so not established yet will be first election to tell if how much it has effect. The ndp are also splitting votes to the left as are the Green Party left. Technically the conservatives should have been in power a lot more than they have which shows the election situation in Canada.
Western Canada usually goes something like 90% conservative all the time eastern Canada has more seats and usually goes left. If the conservatives want to win they have to pick up many seats in Ontario usually or rely on a dead even split of ndp and liberal left. Usually. The new Conservative party was formed in the assumption the old conservatives have been too left on many issues. But their leader has been a bit whacky according to some. Almost trump like to others. So it will be interesting.

Provincially I won’t even get into it as far as I should we have all duds every party. The ndp left were in so long and became so useless that a corpse could have defeated them finally and when they were defeated we all thought what a great thing and it appeared so as man we were told look at how rich we were we just didn’t know it. And as it turned out the new party couldn’t manage a 2 year olds check book. And us farmers have been the ones paying for it rhe most and we put them there. But as I m sure you can tell from this forum there are some so brainwashed or bought off that they will admit it s shitty but won’t demand better from the current gov and continue to give their votes for nothing. Keeping us locked in a worse political situation could be imagined. Saskatchewan = political Dudville.

You almost could be convicted or suspected of any kind of fraud there is and still be elected a sask party rural mla provincially because we re so scared to elected a crooked Hopefully someday the zombies wake up.

And federally the same could be said about conservatives west and liberals east.
We really only vote mostly about what to do with the oil money in the west and what to do with minorities and immigrants in the east.

I would say a real conservative government. Doesn’t exist in Canada. It simply can’t get the votes. So we have these fakers fool us enough to think they are only once in awhile to disappoint us hugely.

There are currently 16 registered federal political parties in Canada. Six of the parties are currently represented with at least one seat in the federal government. Seat numbers in brackets. Parties need 12 seats to be recognized as a party in the House of Commons so really there are only 3 recognized parties at this time, 2 left leaning and 1 right leaning.

The NDP (40), Green (2), and Bloc Quebouis (10)(only runs candidates in Quebec) can all be considered Left leaning.
The Liberals (177) are seen as center left
The Conservatives (95) are seen as center right
The Peoples party of Canada (1) would be right.

There are also 13 seats which are held by independents or are vacant at this time.

One of the problems I see is there are still a lot of people who vote for a political party because their parents or grandparents did. They vote Liberal , NDP, or Conservative , and very seldom think outside the box on their own , but boy they can bellyache down at the coffee row , like they are political commentators. Voting for minority parties is a waste of a vote they rarely achieve anything except chaos and uncertainty and sadly become power brokers with bugger all of the population voting for them.

Yes the conservatives are a disappointment at the moment, yes Bernier is the only one with a platform I can stand behind, yes he doesn’t have a shot at forming any government, yes Trudeau is a disgrace and this election is about getting rid of Trudeau. I am voting PPC so the parties can see their is a segment of the population that does not agree with the direction this country is heading. I am in a safe conservative riding, but want to send a message to my MP to shift the political discussion to the right.

At lunch time I watched Scheer on CTV newsnet, he had a press conference at Pearson International. The only questions asked of him were about abortion and gay marriage and six reporters asked the same question and he answered the same each time. I took away two things from watching, the MSM are literally stupid and Scheer has the personality and demeanor of a wet dish rag. As much as I agree with Malle's comment that a vote for a minority third party is probably not a great idea, I am probably going to vote PPC if there is a candidate in my riding. There has to be a message sent to the CPC that they need to step back onto the right side of the political spectrum, because all they are now blue Liberals and the Liberals are red NDP.

In 2015 in Alberta many Albertan's I am sure voted NDP thinking they wouldn't get in but wanted to send a message, we ended up with a NDP majority. Voting PPC is going to help the Liberal's, Bernier is still a Quebecer, no offence on Quebec but I have had enough French Prime Ministers in my life, Trudeau has to go!
