I know this is a crop report, but for this weekend I will be watching my Cameras down south till the power goes out. Maybe add a generator this winter. All you can do is wait and hunker down. Neighbours have put our trash cans in Garage. All ornaments etc. are put away. The biggest threat is flying debris in the wind and this mornings weather forecast called for 100mph swath turning winds starting this weekend on Sunday. The storm is to hit our area around 2 Pm, but I think it will miss and hit East of Orlando. Keep safe my Floridian neighbours.
Ok, this weeks crop report is a little different since I have been on the road for a family function up North in Edmonton. The only area I didn't travel this summer was Manitoba. I did go down to Calgary and home one the number 1.
If it doesn't freeze for two to three weeks, Canada will produce an average crop. You cant make lemonade out of sour g****s. This crop is late and delayed big time. Some areas have wow what a crop others have Wow what a crap. Late third and fourth stage canola crops look nice but need a month as most are just coming out of flowering. So the reality is if frost hits in the next three weeks this number will drop. If it hits next week, it will be big-time drop on Canola and downgrade on Cereals. Don't let the experts who never get out and walk fields just yap tell you its a bin buster.
Now, will the Hurricane change our weather pattern? It some times does.
HRS is in the final stage, and green spots are starting to turn now. We have harvest managed some fields but decided to leave another week. Yesterday was supposed to start full harvest management plus, but it rained from 10 till 3. So total for the year just over 11 inches. We are now wet. The Trencher was doing work on the sand ridge and digging in lines for bins and had moisture all way down three feet. We are back too full moisture again. The 2020 crop should start better.
Most are holding off swathing due to our recent rain events. Geese are starting to show up.
Peas are all ready to harvest, and we need the weather window to open up just a crack. Yield could be ok at about half and a slight drop in two fields. The rule should be peas every eight years as the ground has shit happening in high long term pea grower fields. You can see from air-ground or underground.
Lentils are all off from Regina to Valley and north maybe the odd field. No one is saying how they did.
Flax is the one crop that is not having a great year. From one end of western Canada to others. Dirty sick, thin-looking fields and oh one here and there okay. Nothing exceptional this year.
