Not sure if it’s better, but way more forgiving... in certain conditions.
Way lighter for wet conditions, in dry conditions you need to just slow down and get seed to soil contact. Follows the ground way better . But the ole 5710 has by far more packing pressure.
It’s a toss up depending on where you live and fertility you use at seeding time .
There are far more configurations one can do with the 8810.
But every farm is different and uses their machines differently so not really what’s better or not.
There are guys here with the newest seed masters or seed hawks . Some make em work great others are a wreck every year No different the the Horsch planter ... it’s how you use them properly not how they work properly... not being an ass , but it is what it is . If you have good luck with what you use , stay with it .

Same width packer as opener is the big key..
We use 3 inch opener..3 inch HD packer which was not very common in 2011..most went with the cheaper poly packers.
These pack like a rock.need pick to check seed depth..not just your finger nail..

9 times outa 10 it’s the operator , not the drill. A good operator can make almost anything work well . It’s hired men and lack of attention that makes good machines work poorly

8810 with packers great....5710 best drill built ever!

One notch down when dry....seed in the moisture good germination.

One notch up when damp...seed in enough dirt to germinate in a few days.

Ground too wet....can’t go at all....sinks in the mud, crop will flood there anyways. Leave it.

                    My experience.

Also can buy a new I improved 5810 for a dime....

                      8810 .10 thousand pounds lighter.
Tires in frame follows land better.
Adjustable packing pressure in real wet.
Packers off the ground on head lands..
Was discontinued because it was to cheap for BG to make money..
We took packers off and put harrow on for fall fert for yrs..
What ever works for you ..
How much iron is needed to seed 1 inch deep? At 4.5 mph..

Cobs are getting a little bigger .............. how I’m not sure with the lack of heat and sun.

My brother says some of the varieties in our plots by his place are actually close to maturity which I’ve gotta check out soon.

Long white sausages are growing across the countryside here. We’re at 2,500 bales wrapped and there’s probably about that much to go yet.

I didn’t want to make any of these this year as I’d rather sell it to the alfalfa plant since they’re still looking for 25,000 bales anyway.

The RCMP musical ride came to Stony Plain on Sunday and was neat to see. The kids really liked it.

The school bus is coming at 7:15 am to start a new year in the morning. It still doesn’t feel like summer has shown up yet. Never kept track but I bet we’ve had more days below +20 than above for the highs. Only swathing happening here is for grain silage. Nothing else even close. Forecast looks crummy ................ as usual.

Maybe time for a little holiday since the mountains will be quieter and Ma Nature is still grumpy.

The two worst seeded crops in our area are with 5710 and the old Flexicoil 5000. The whole farm except peas is a shit show. Patchy, dirty etc. These are excellent farmers who this year for some reason have issues. A few years back in the wet years, I would have traded in a heartbeat. New series drill on one farm is better but still not as good as 3320 etc. Just whats happened in our area. Shallow seeding in spring also didn't work. Our last section of canola is an example of a field that we should not have listened to the weather forecast and sunk it a little deeper. Drill two was set for deeper and had better results; you can see the difference.
