Funny all the new names commenting.
I'd rather use a pseudonym on this topic myself.
We do not need a "black" rifle to hunt. Nor do I need my hand held equivalent of a hot 45-70.
But your talking about across the board property confiscation? Or generational dissolution through Prohibition?
    Get it straight.
Regions of the world a Bible is illegal. Not sure what you need that for either.

Just because a person doesn’t have an opinion on each and every thread doesn’t mean they are new to the site!

Rural Saskatchewan roads are full of road signs shot up by "law abiding" gun owners apparently. I doubt that urban gangs or hardened criminals are wasting bullets on rural road signs.

The assumption that only repeat hardened criminals use guns to commit crimes is wrong.

Domestic violence and the threat of domestic violence are sometimes perpetrated by mostly "law abiding" gun owners.

One farmer who challenged a group of hunters who were trespassing was threatened with a gun by "law abiding" gun owners.

Another gentleman when cut off at the local watering hole because he already had too much, returned with a gun and threatened the bartender.

A couple of examples of the threat posed by guns, but incidents like these are not common but they do happen in rural areas.

I am gun owner. I still do some hunting and pest control. I am not advocating that rural residents lose their right to own legitimate guns.

But any suggestions that we need hand guns, or that banning some types of guns goes against my needs as a farmer hunter doesn't make sense to me.

If you believe gun crime is a problem then you should be willing to accept that public safety is more important than the right to own hand guns or other more dangerous guns and accessories.

Poverty and inequality of opportunity are the root causes of most crime. Most people who chose crime come from broken homes, poverty and lack of other opportunities. If you want to solve the issue of crime you need to address these bigger issues. It won't eliminate all crime but it will make a big difference.

Pretty hard to argue with success.
Years ago the Aussies bought the
          Semi autos back.
          Guess what no mass shootings
          Since.
They have bad folks nut jobs too.
The last one had to go to new
Zealand to acquire the weapon to kill 50.

These types do not worry about stiffer penalties.
          Most plan on dieing anyway.
The US has the most people in prison on the planet.
And a high gun homicide rate .

Just look at what works .
          Pretty simple.really

Our most notorious killer 24 dead
LAPINE , polytechnic got his weapon
          From his army reserve job.
The Norway guy that killed an
          Island of children.
Military too . Access to weapons.

No sense those weapons being on the streets .
We kill enough here with shotguns and rifles.

If there are no limits on
          Weaponry on the streets .
Then give em tanks or rocket
          Launchers.
Then they can really do some
          Damage

Hmm. Let's legalize pot (Or all drugs like the green party proposes) and ban guns.

Yes. I was just replying to bravehearts mention of semi-autos only have 5 shot clips as my Sako 30-06 bolt also has a 5 shot clip.

I'm fine with most of what Saw and Chuck say. Common sense.
I'm just not convinced we have a gun "problem" to the scale worried about.
Show numbers to the contrary compared to other premature deaths, violent and otherwise, minus organized crime.
Cheap politics that will get unnecessarily expensive.
Fear mongering has become the backbone of public policy.
All I hear in the outside world anymore is talk of impending doom. I call bull crap and choose not to live in fear.

Prohib the damn things, don't get comfortable with govt confiscation.
                Someday your turn.

These instances are so few, and not identified, they are not a credible argument against the value of firearm ownership by thousands.

As far as hand guns go, no we don't NEED them and banning them would perhaps reduce the number that criminals have some what. But if you need to conceal a weapon a large one can be reduced quite nicely with a hack saw...………...

If the tobacco farmers can be bought out so can I. My claim alone will be $40,000+.
