You can't put a price on saving the planet, you are not asking enough. If your using certified tree seed and paying seed tax, assuming 85% germ, you likely want to plant 1 tree/sqft, allowing for environmental factors such as frost, flood, drought, and locusts. Not sure whose gonna apply the cancer causers pre plant but that needs to be factored in. Your looking at closer to minimum $41000/ac just to plant plus maintain plus land rental. Roughly speaking. That's the problem with us grain farmers we are constantly under cutting the other producer, we should set a minimum price on tree production, maybe get the dairy boys on commission to negotiate?

A healthy forest is 60 trees per acre, so 2B trees will need 30M acres. Where is Canada going to find that open land? Oh year right, Western Canada. Shut down our oil and ag and replace it all with panels windmills and trees. Chuck must be getting aroused by now.
