My feelings on it anyway.

It won't take long and seed cost per acre with a planter will soon approach what it costs to seed with an air drill.

Even without planters virtually everyone I know has cut seeding rates to 4lbs from 5. They are recapturing that 20%.

My Dupont rep said same prices as this year and I don't remember paying close to $1,000 per bag.

Your getting 9.50 a bushel at the grain co and they want 12/lb for the seed !

thats how soybean seed is priced, based on units/acre basis row planter requirements. if u seed with an airseeder, you need to bump your seed rates to approx 1.5x so seed costs go way up. Now that BASF has moved to a units/acre pricing model on invigor canola seed, as a few more farmers start 'cheating' the system by cutting seed rates with row planters, BASF, et al. will move the pricing basis row planter requirements. so plan on paying a lot more for seed if you are still using an air seeder/drill, or go buy a $500k vacuum planter.

What is the actual price per pound of the latest and greatest that claims to be best? ....with Lumiderm at a rate that "claims" to control cutworms but probably only makes flea beetles dizzy for a day?

How are the boys pricing the shit that will be sold by the bag based on "X" seeds per acre? Those pricks won't leave a penny on the table, heaven forbid the farmer gets a bit of value or benefit from being able to reduce their seeding rate....fūcken crooks will steal your efficiency and innovation! Had a little time to drive around a bit the last few days, was quite surprised how much green canola exists in my area. There are certainly some good looking ripe swathed and standing crops but there are certainly some green canola crops that won't have liked last nights -7 low. Some green crops it appeared had suffered hail damage but some were just late. So unless canola breeders can develope hail resistant varieties I see no justification for a price increase. My opinion is that when the seed salesman comes out we should all say no. If nobody booked their seed early this would certainly send a message. Maybe they would pull their heads out of their collective a#*es. We have lost more than 10% in what recieve for our canola why shouldn't they take a hit as well!!!!

Have a lock on 1 crop seed .

Imagine what it will be like in 10 years when they have a lock on them all.

No Walking away from a crop ,when prices get excessive .
As the others will be jacked up too.

The method that they use to
Collect the royalties is not the issue.

Other than a port royalty
Means they have the tools to control open pollinated seeds market too.

Like canola, The issue is the lack of access to off patent seeds.

As a means to set the true market
Value of what they sell.


We have seen the blueprint used
To get canola to this price level.

Remember canola seed did not start out at 80$ /acre .either.

It will take a while to flush out
The rest of the OP seed from farmers hands.

Once that is done , farmers
And consumers will have to pay
Whatever they ask.

Few other products have this kind of market control.

As an example

A LED is an improvement on an incandescent bulb.
So what are you gonna pay for this
Innovation.
You might pay 3x times as much. Right.
But not 50x, you can live with an incandescent at that price.

Unless of course they will not let you buy an off patent regular bulb.

Now Just like canola seed .
Charge whatever you want.

The seed industry's plan is layed out for us .plain as day.

Remove the alternatives
Public and small private seed breeders.

Be nice at first .

Get rid of alternatives.

Get the govt to insure
You collect, even at port.

Then the sky is the limit.
Then you do not even have to innovate, anymore ,really .
As you do not even have to compete with 20 year old varieties.

Just collect the money.
