    Swathing with snow?

Ok, another question. I have only a puller swather. It won’t cut my flaxy cereals. So I never got a chance to see how much snow it would knock off the crop.

Anyone with experience swathing crops with some snow on them? Does it knock most of the snow off?

If it does I have a neighbor who may help me out. We want to know if it works before he hauls his unit over here to go at it after this snow event...

I have no experience with swathing crop with snow. I think if it is just fluffy and not crusted on the crop the snow would drop off. I guess the only way to know is to try swathing some. Good luck!

I suggest leaving it standing. Over the years I have seen people leave the crop stand and eventually harvest it either swath in front or else straight cut.
This requires a lot of patience waiting for the weather to blow through and stabilize.
Once you put it into a swath you are subject to more snow in the swath which may not melt and you are done until spring for sure. Leaving the crop subject to wildlife feces and damage.
If its standing you have a chance to harvest it. Too much wet snow may flatten but by then, you are stuffed either way standing or swathed.
Good luck with this, don’t “fight yourself” trying to make it happen.
