    What exactly is......

Just seen some stuff and I get all sorts of opinions from Aville but seen something on tv that puzzles me.

Justin Trudeau was seen to be one of the worlds most progressive leaders socially morally and financially think the statement was followed by jacenda Arden of NZ.

    What progressive actually mean.

Our pm was called a fiscal conservative nothing else added.

Interestingly they said Boris Johnson of UK “could” become a great leader but no mention of progressive.

    Thinking many interpretations of progressive.

Merkel mentioned on here awhile back she almost dead centre, conservative on some Things fiscal policy but left leaning on environmental and energy

Norway deemed right Sweden left was all kinda interesting. Oddly they said capitalism working well in norway as is socialism in Sweden. Think there neighbours bu Norway has shitloads o oil?

God help the wold and uk if j Corbyn gets in as let as you can go it seems.

So there’s no such thing as a progressive conservative??

    Wiki definition....

The meanings of progressivism have varied over time and from different perspectives. Progressivism became highly significant during the Age of Enlightenment in Europe, out of the belief that Europe was demonstrating that societies could progress in civility from uncivilized conditions to civilization through strengthening the basis of empirical knowledge as the foundation of society.[2] Figures of the Enlightenment believed that progress had universal application to all societies and that these ideas would spread across the world from Europe.[2]

In the modern era, a movement that identifies as progressive is "a social or political movement that aims to represent the interests of ordinary people through political change and the support of government actions"[3] In the 21st century, those who identify as progressive may do so for a variety of reasons: for example, to favor public policy that reduces or ameliorates the harmful effects of economic inequality as well as systemic discrimination, to advocate for environmentally conscious policies, as well as for social safety nets and rights of workers, to oppose the negative externalities inflicted on the environment and society by monopolies or corporate influence on the democratic process. The unifying theme is to call attention to the negative impacts of current institutions or ways of doing things, and to advocate for progress, that is, for positive change as defined by any of several standards, such expansion of democracy, increased social or economic equality, improved well being of a population, etc.

The contemporary common political conception of progressivism in the culture of the Western world emerged from the vast social changes brought about by industrialization in the Western world in the late-19th century. Progressives in the early-20th century as well as now, take the view that progress is being stifled by vast economic inequality between the rich and the poor; minimally regulated laissez-faire capitalism with monopolistic corporations; and intense and often violent conflict between workers and capitalists, thus claiming that measures were needed to address these problems.[4] Early-20th century progressivism was also tied to eugenics[5][6][7] and the temperance movement,[8][9] both of which were promoted in the name of public health, and were promoted as initiatives toward that goal. Contemporary progressives promote public policies that they believe will lead to positive social change.

Seems no political party is absolutely defined by it's title, they all stray into each others "domain". Especially the Liberals and Conservatives. Seems far left NDP and Greens has more trouble crossing center to be a little to the right.

The term "progressive" has so many profound, evolving nuances that it proves challenging to keep a current definition.

So perhaps it would be best understood through illustration, rather than rationale.

When we observe progressives in action, we see a determined mindset that is so far advanced in the lofty realm of civility that they may now not only disregard those who are clearly NOT progressive (by their fluid standard) but actually persecute them.

We see them place so much value on the certainty of their beliefs and projections that they may safely reach conclusions that somehow supersede and discard empiricism. And then demand that others do the same. Any who ask for scientific footing - thus contradicting the progressive narrative - are labelled deniers or patriarchal.

Progressives are those bold ones who discard historically proven models in order to somehow catapult everyone into their definition of success and acceptability. And when it doesn't work, then they simply discard more historical culture, which is obviously the culprit and the obstacle to progress. Results will improve, they say, the more we reject the traditional.

Progressives are those who believe that if someone has earned a dollar, it is only at the expense someone less fortunate. The obvious solution - take not only that dollar from the earner, but castigate the earner for even wanting to produce something.

Progressives have the intrinsic ability to not only verbalize the most noble ideals that would raise everyone to the same social levels and acceptance, but to promote them vigorously, giving them the image of the ultimate humanitarian.

And as public life and grind reveals the true heart and soul of progressives to be severely lacking in application of their own rhetoric, they invariably increase the volume of the and brilliance of their posture to refute the obvious. Thus, they are closely related to the chameleon lizard. lizard...

To minimize the hazard of "testing" which might expose their inherent deficiencies, progressives will very wisely surround themselves with only those who agree with and support their ideology. Groupthink - the obvious cure for dissension.

Furthermore, progressives demonstrate a full commitment to silencing those who question their "progress". After all, they say, "safe speech" is far more progressive than "free speech".

Therefore, progressives find it most convenient to operate without clearly defined goals, choosing to make up the game plan as necessary in their favor. This keeps everyone off balance and unsure as to where their next attack will land.

Progressives are those who believe that if we redistribute all the world's resources for the fair share benefit of all, the problems of inequity and need will disappear. This redistribution, of course will not include their personal holdings locked up in their trusts and offshore accounts, carefully hidden from scrutiny by shouting loudly about the perceived injustice and greed of others.

Progressives have the uncanny ability to spot a threat and then act as needed to neutralize or destroy it. If it means eating their own, no problem, so be it. Dinner "with" today maybe "dinner" tomorrow. Ah, pity, but no remorse.

And if you can get someone with a nice smile, friendly persona, and emotional appeal to be your front man, why then that guy can lead not only your movement, but also your country, regardless of how slimy and evil that S.O.B is in reality.

After all, who would have more motivation to hide the truth and protect their movement than he?
