Lets see if 350,000 people will move to a frozen desert quarter section in SW sask and eke out a living amoung the rocks and cacti like my grandparents family did and still send their sons off to world wars. My family were not immigrants, they were pioneers tasked with taming a small piece of this country. They were nation builders, not settlers.

Sad that we're having this argument on the same day we honor our freedoms and their cost.
Theodore Roosevelt's speeches ring true yet today. To call them bigoted is a shot from the uneducated.
Cherry may well be an anachronism or an idiot.
Not the issue. No one cares the color of a man's skin who stands beside him.
Right now it seems that regardless of color, men are standing alongside only to pick our pocket.

He will never understand the difference
Great grandfather left england with two sons , one who died later in the war, to work in coal mines in rossland , bc
Sons came one at a time , was 7 years before he could make a life for his family and my great grandmother was able to join him here with the youngest child
Comparing this ****show that is going on now to that , is the ultimate insult
Some of numbnuts 25000 chosen are still living in hotels , FFS

The immigrant farmers who settled the prairies worked very hard. They came for the chance to own their own land and to make a better their life. They were given land as homesteaders.
Everyone who was later born in Canada also benefited greatly from their hard work and sacrifices. Almost all the farmers on this site would have been helped by their parents and their community. Very few of todays farmers built their farm on their own with no help.
First nations were partners with the many fur traders and acted as guides and helped the mostly European traders survive.
Chinese immigrants helped build the railroads and many died under terrible working conditions.
The assumption that only immigrants from Europe worked hard and built this country is one of those myths that persists amongst the poorly informed.
There has always been animosity and bigotry between various ethnic groups. The English didn't like the eastern europeans or the germans or ukrainian settlers, the catholics didn't get along with the protestants, the french and the english fought a war over Canada......... Now their decendents are proud Canadians just like the decendents from other parts of the world.
Andrew Scheer and the Conservatives want to bring in as many immigrants as the liberals. Its good economic policy in the face of labour shortages and low birthrates. You can't win an election in Canada by being anti immigrant.
Many of you like to complain about the support refugees and immigrants get. Did you all forget that farmers are subsidized by Canadian taxpayers!
Don Cherry had a bigoted point of view that doesn't fit with Canadian values.

Do any of those photos put into perspective how out of touch Cherry is with his rants about immigrants?

We seem to have a failure to communicate. When Cherry said, "you people", he didn't say you brown, black or yellow people. "You people" includes white people. Chuck, you seem to be focused on other colours. Perhaps you have the doll our problem not Don Cherry.
Cherry's incident now has some people keeping score on poppies around here. Interestingly, German and French immigrants here wore poppies as did Filipino and African immigrants. South African (white) was observed not wearing poppy.
