How did North Dakota become a powerhouse with a high per capita GDP. Higher than Texas! It used to be a more agricultural state with a couple of air force bases loaded up with nuclear missiles ready to take on the Soviets.

What do Texas, Alaska, Alberta, and North Dakota all have in common?

Are they smarter? Do they work harder? Are they better educated? Are they better looking? No to all those questions.

The one thing they have in common is significant oil reserves and production.

Just like the rich neighbors who own the mineral rights and struck oil, they are lucky.

And its is hard to feel sorry for the rich neighbors because they complain about paying too many taxes or the price oil is now 50% of what it was. What bad luck they have!

The downturn in oil and gas is hard on those who lost their jobs to be sure. These people need help. They need retraining and they probably need to look for a more stable career.

What are Kenney and Moe doing to help these families? All I hear them talk about is helping the "industry". Kenney and More need to realize that the industry is taking their cash made during the boom elsewhere, they are becoming more efficient and laying off workers to improve the bottom line.

Ahhh , the resentment of your neighbours , falls in line with CWB thinking . God forbid thy neighbour is deemed better off . Oil boom around the area and your not cashing in so bash oil , pump climate change and rant on everyone who opposes your ideals .
There sure is a lot of steam plants in that area , that’s great to see. Very economical , productive and environmentally friendly way to recover heavy oil .
Oil price will recover at some point . The climate always changes . And prepare for a few more years of cool summers and possible tough harvests .
Life will go on and there is no climate catastrophe or emergency or whatever

Chuck, Unlike the USSR of your dreams, Canada and the US don't have internal passports that restrict peoples movements. Any and everyone is free to move to the regions experiencing economic booms, and partake in the wealth creation, and equally free to take that wealth wherever they want when they have made enough, or the boom is over. That is how equalization works. And millions have been taking advantage of that.

It makes you look so ridiculously petty when you accuse anyone more successful than yourself as "lucky".

Luck doesn't develop the technology and raise the capital, and build the infrastructure to capitalize on a resource. If it did, most of Africa would be first world countries, and Japan would be a poverty ridden third world backwater.

why wasn't Sask lucky then also ?? used to be a joke when we were under orange rule that the oil and gas reserves knew where the prov. border was
