Russia's second largest bank is now their largest grain trader, owning half interest in a few ports... With Putin's blessing the idea is to create a major Russian grain "champion" that will provide end-to-end logistics, sales, and financing of grain purchases... They are talking about making this an independent entity in the future... and the way the letter is worded, they are setting up the Russian Wheat Board.

This will be a major thorn in our side especially selling to emerging nations.

That will depend how much money ends up in the primary producers hands in Russia . If they fellow the old CWB model the producers will not receive enough money for their products to farm for very long . Unless of course they run it like one giant Hutterite colony , where no one gets paid and the just work for food, clothing and shelter.
Not trying to be an ass about it, but reality shows as here in Canada , the more hands in the cookie jar , the less for the primary producers. Most of the money is siphoned off up the chain , producers get left with crumbs .
Maybe Russia will value its producers more , time will tell .

True but Russia has spent on infrastructure and other things ....to compete in our markets....

We have been sleeping which is why I am pissed at our farm groups....just handing them our markets....

I use to deliver grain to viterra and make deals on inputs while doing so ....bought a couple augers that were sitting at the local ....a one stop center for me....

If the Russians adopt that model....look out....viterra lost an opportunity to keep customers by splitting it up....

Hadnt heard about it but yes sounds concerning. Anyone with size and backing can buy a lot of market share. Having said that there still seems to be lots of corruption in Russian business so I'm guessing a bunch of locals will get super rich, a bunch more will just disappear with their concrete boots on and the whole company will get ran into the ground by those left in charge.

From what I ve heard yes the corruption exists but it’s a corruption that is charging full steam ahead there a mega rich farms developing there that will control the land part as long as the workers get more than people doing nothing in their cities it will work and will be a major problem for us.
