I predict that there will come a day when railroads will refuse to carry oil or any load where the weight shifts. The weight of the load and sloshing around inside the tank must be hard on the track and rail bed. Not quite like a load of lumber. The legal liability may become a problem also. Not an expert but just seems precarious to me.

Propane on the other hand ... very scary. It's partially full, under high pressure. He has been on a train that derailed where a propane csr blew and send the end of the car 3/4 of a mile.Last edited by LEP; Dec 9, 2019, 23:25.

Has the cause of the derailment been established yet? I find it ironic that it happened just as Kenny and entourage is headed to Ottawa to lobby for pipelines. Couldn't have been better timing and place where nobody would get hurt and to prove the need for pipes in the ground.

if it happened at a crossing it is easy to understand....fill with snow and or ice and if they are like any of the local crossings there will be more of this happening...
There is no reasons for crossings to be sunk below the pavement other than highways and the railways don't talk or blame each other....
