    Oats

Didn't want to derail the Admin post but I noticed at the bottom in the FP ad that there is a new oat CDC Arborg, has anyone grown them? I have grown Morgans in the past and switched to Camden the last couple of years, just wondering if these are any better....also do they stand well?

Sorry for the derail, I'll get off here and hopefully somebody with something useful will chime in for you.

Well I got my answer from a buddy just now that texted me.....apparently grow tall....lots of straw....and they lodge so that is a hard no from me.

We use to grow Morgan. I also maybe might change up some acres to Oats in 2020, What is a good variety now?

Morgan does not have plant breeders rights attached to it.
Morgan yields like mad with inputs. I have conventional neighbours growing 160-220 bushels per acre.
              Morgan has excellent lodging resistance.

Do you really want to leave this variety?
Too many bushels to deal with?

I agree it has with the right inputs given very good yields and stands great. Just wondering what is out that is new. Don't like the Company that advertises on here for seed.

How does cambden compare to morgans for you ?
Been growing cambden 3 years , cant decide ?
Cambden definetely shorter, earlier and stand better, weights good
But i dont think they are yielding as good as morgans

I have been finding the same....Camdens stand good and weigh decent but I don't think they are yielding as good as Morgans. The last couple of years I grew Morgans they went flat so I made a switch but possibly looking for something else now.

Been growing Camden for three years now, agree with others that Morgan busheled more but will be the odd man oat and say Morgan stood better than Camden. I’m actually considering switching back to Morgan.

Nobody else likes Mustang? Grows well for me and heavy (48lbs/bu).
May try Morgan with all the positive reviews, I thought it was just for the cowboys (hay).

I have been growing Minstrel for a few years. I like them and millers seem to as well. Have the old variety Dancer on one side of its pedigree so it has a good disease package. I have never had any significant lodging issues although i dont grow bushels like hobby talks about in his area either.

Cant-erra owns the rights to Camden, I will not grow any of their seed varieties due to this company's lobbying for the seed tax. Could you image $100/acre oat seed cost?
