Yea Im doing the same,I guess that is why I have trouble understanding the constant complaining on here.\
Kind of seems like the dog chasing his tail, but if thats your gig go for it, There was a time when I was average to above but I had no desire to buy more,I perfer fishing or hunting,or a walk in the woods(which I have 300 acres) so everyone got bigger except me but I am still living what I would call the good life.
No mortage, machinery payments, operating loan, Peace of mind for me .I hope to stay until death moves me but only time will tell how that plays out, We have 2 kids and I rather expect when its theres it will be sold, But cant rule from the grave so live with it.

I am an STO but will be buying land in a year or two as well. Need to grow and there is simply no opportunity any where else so have to grow the farm. Millennials will farm for free because saying your a farmer is more socially acceptable than saying you are unemployed. Just spend a little time on indeed.com for motivation. If a job is decent, they already know who is going to fill it and are just going through the motions with the advertising. If you have unique skills and good connection, your experience may be better than mine but I don't have either.

Nope not going to win that one. However, it should be on all the farm groups main radar because I will guarantee you the Commie Chinks aren't going to be paying any checkoff. No reason to have checkoff if your production is already dedicated to the biggest market in the world.

What would be really scary is if those people started getting a majority presence on the farm boards and started diverting checkoff funds into slush funds dedicated to Commie farmers.

We have enough larger farms in the area..they will never buy each other out..so..us smaller..slightly older farmers have it made because we are on all their radar maps.lol..
          Greed is to our advantage.
Price will never go down on our land as they will fall over themselves to get it.haha..

The ones buying and with the most $$ near here are from South Africa. One needs 40,000 acres, only half way there! Might need to get his number, paying $100/ acre cash rents too!

I rather see your situation than the Hutterites or GD Chinese crappers taking out a few big guys.

Our land is too valuable to let it fall into the hands of foreigners that want us dead or at the least enslaved to them.

Needs 40,000 acres in Saskatchewan 90 day growing season with 20 normal days....yah ok go for it. It will be like the Hockey Player Ritchie Sale at Saltcoats...remember seeing 50,000 bushels bins 30% full of heated canola. Lots of opportunity again for the ambitious locals that day and the hockey player got educated.

Like Les Henry said...history repeats itself if you live long enough. He farmed $1000 acre land paid for by the investor doctors that sold for 1/2 that 5-8 years later when they got bored playing farmer and needed the money for a new boat or something.

We all know farming ROI sucks now and it’s in our playground and we know the rules and how the game is played. Let the foreigners with money come in and get an education and we can get a crack again.

Let a frickin sovereign communist power come in...and we are way outside our wheelhouse.

That’s why it’s time we get some phucking leadership from our so called government leaders. It’s pathetic how there is no one advocating for farmer today.

We need a Trump with a big get done attitude to plow the way.

Geese’s does anybody see this situation?

Do you really think it's the Trojan Horse you're making it out to be?

Do they really want primary production risk when they can have die-hard taking it for them?

Question is how hard do you think it would be for the Chinese to buy out 1/2 of all the farmers on the Prairies if they offered to buy land at twice its current value, tomorrow?

Offered $3000 per acre for a quarter close to the farm. Close to a full quarter, but a few sloughs to go around and a few hills and one unfarmable ridge. Basically got laughed out the door. Told to come back when I get serious, and that it is worth another $100,000 plus.

Land was $1000/acre 7 years ago.

Not sure I buy the idea that there is Chinese government money involved in foreign real estate purchases. My understanding is that most of the money being invested in real estate outside of China is that they are trying to protect their money from the government Hence investing it in in Canadian real estate, even if it is far overvalued, it is still better than losing it all within China during the coming economic catastrophe, currency collapse, and government crack down.

Granted, farmland is in a league of its own, and may be considered a strategic investment which government would want to encourage.

Every area has land deals where the purchaser is buying the lands future appreciation.
They must want it bad and thinking long term...like next generation.

Re: Chinese buying half the Ag land, 15444, I don't think that would happen.

Some of the numbers Blackpowder and Jazz talk about are non-sensical to me.

Some prices are beyond the land assets productive capacity to pay for itself....yup, excellent investment!

Even Jazz said he thinks it's feeling a bit toppy.

Too many young farmers here who would like to buy the land and it doesn't make economic sense!
So instead, some foreign investors, domestic investors- who never made a nickel of their money in Ag are dumping cash into the land market-------and in some cases effectively getting the tennent to make the mortgage payment.....it's called RENT. FÃœCKEN STOOPID......leave them hang out to dry!

Some people are their own worst enemies.

Too many high testosterone big dick swinging contests out there, God help you if your neighbor or cousin has one more acre than you! Hang your head in shame!
