Woodland certainly aware that most of canola west of highway 2 had green seed issues. What I am curious about is your opinion as to why. Is it cold spring weather, not enough heat in the summer, shitty fall weather, new canola genetics too long growing season required, combination of all? I certainly don't think we need higher yields, not enough rail capacity now. We appear to need crops that will tolerate frost and stand through snow falls. Canola has the most money spent on research and still abysmal results for many, how will a seed tax help?

Last few years were dry springs with poor to no germination till mid June from working ground to eliminate ruts from the previous harvest. Then the continual smoke, incessant rain, early frosts/snows made it never mature. Heck the ***** willows popped out a few weeks ago here. In other words basically everything you mentioned. A lot less rail cars getting filled out of this neighbourhood between mostly feed grade wheat and what got snowed under for the last few years. I’m doing my part to not plug up the rail system........... not necessarily by choice. 😉

Don’t need the fancy latest genetics here ........... I’m happy to be “average” and just get the crop off. If the moisture is under 20% I consider it a success. Might be coming across grumpy/ bitter but really don’t mean too. Sometimes making lemonade out of the proverbial lemons grows old ............ more of a lemon meringue pie fan anyway.
