    Reminds me of years ago when Gainers Meats employees went on strike. Ol’ Peter Puck shut the plant down and told them to go to hell. Same as excel meats in Moose Jaw. Workers were striking, plant needed a bunch of upgrades etc. Nilssons mothballed it rather than put up with the bs.

        The moose Jaw plant needed upgrades but they were trying to get rid of the union because of wages ...Sadly what was missed is that area has very competitive wages because of mines, graincos, fertilizer plants and more potash that was coming on stream....they would have had to boost salaries union or not...

        What the government did was reduce the ability to continue to slaughter something here for the good of the ranching industry and is now in talks to up their investment in ILOs....which eventually means a slaughterhouse.

        They set the entire ranching industry back and consolidated it which in the long run will reduce young producers the ability to enter...

          True enough. Used to rail fat cows there. Did good going through there and quit doing it after they shuttered as Alberta plants were more hassle to deal with.
