Airlines ask for government help

It seems that Montreal based Air Canada has asked for government help because of losses incurred by the corona virus ...they will probably get it...but I am one for letting them fail...thats usually what farmers are told if shit hits the fan...

Now compare that issue that is out of their control to what farmers face with issues out of their control....


It seems to reason that the first line of economic help should come from the shareholders.....not taxpayers...

If my farm needs a cash injection due to uncontrolled issues like the harvest or trade ....I just buck up and borrow some more money....or sell something to make ends meet...

I guess some businesses that work in a free and open market have different rules....

I guess things were tough at Evraz when Ralphie handed them 40 million and then the company continued with their dividends....

All the help for companies listed on exchanges is to help shareholders using taxpayer money....maybe its time for the big investors to share a little pain instead of asking politicians to perserve their wealth...

I am not a socialist but it really phucking pisses me off when so called capitalists are at the trough...

Air Canada has its HQ in Montreal and continually gets bailouts and government help.

They are in the same club as SNC-Lavalin and Bombardier.

In reality 80% ? Or more of airline travel Is recreational / non essential .
Everyone hates fossil fuel , cut them lose, save the world cit millions in carbon . Put their money where their mouth is.
Just leave cargo air traffic and emergency use only.
The rest is really non essential, like celebrities , Hollywood and sports stars . Life will go on.
Focus on food and health , keep police , fireman and other essential services running for the next year but a lot is just fluff . No need to bankrupt the entire country.
The “Stones” .... You can’t always get what you want .....
life can change for a year .... if this is serious as it could be or stated.

Or just hold the line for the next month and see where this goes , instead of bankrupting the entire next generation. We may already be screwed for the next 5-10.

Plenty of oil companies have and will be going out of business in Alberta and nobody cares. No bailout for air canuckistan either. Transat shareholders are laughing right now.
