Saves the trees from paper bags, ZERO disease transmission, gee we had it correct, till OIL hating/Green/ radicals got us indoctrinated that we are DYING in 12-11-10-9 years!

Dow was up over 400 points until Trump open his mouth at his press conference this after noon. Dr Fauci stated there was no current vaccine for coved-19, yet the Orange man had a good feeling that a 20 year old drug use for Malaria could do the job. When a reported asked what makes Trump feel this vaccine could work his reply was “I’m a smart man, that’s why”. It was very difficult for Dr Fauci to bail the idiot out when he was asked if the Malaria vaccine could work by the same reporter.

By the way how do all you so called capitalists Righties feel about Trump bailing out Boeing? But what would you expect from someone who has gone bankrupt six times and no American bank will borrow him money.

Liberals tossed a hundred million to Air Canada a few times and let Canadian go bankrupt.

Actually what Trump said was, “what do we have to lose by trying it”. Researchers are combining the Malaria drug with Z-Pac and its not Trump’s idea.

Looks like this thread got derailed over President Trump's optimism (potentially over optimism) over hydrocloroquin, the point was that had there been sensible leadership in this country with sensible budgeting, we would be in much better shape to weather this storm. There was a report, that I am trying to verify that there have been 500000 EI applications in the past week vs 27000 in a comparable week a year ago. Some of those are for recommended self isolation no doubt. Once the dust settles, the canuckistanian economy will be a shadow of its former self as who is in a position to buy anything in the future? Spending plans around here have been put on hold due to now needing more retirement savings replacing market losses. So all government revenue will have to be sourced from debt in the future like it is in the third world as tax revenue will plummet.

How long before the ChiComs, the Saudis or the Russians, start buying up the last of our Canadian resource companies? They're a bargain price with resource devaluation and our cheap ass dollar !

I have dipped my toe back into the oil industry a couple of time over the past few year only to get my butt kicked every time so yeah they will either all go broke or end up in enemy hands by the looks of things

To Dr. Fauci, if I could? Dr. Fauci, as was explained yesterday, there has been some promise with hydroxychloroquine as potential therapy for people who are infected with coronavirus. Is there any evidence to suggest that, as with malaria, it might be used as a prophylaxis against COVID-19?

                      Anthony Fauci: (42:36)
No. The answer is no. The evidence that you’re talking about is anecdotal evidence. As the commissioner of FDA and the president mentioned yesterday, we’re trying to strike a balance between making something with a potential of an effect to the American people available at the same time that we do it under the auspices of a protocol that would give us information to determine if it’s truly safe and truly effective. But, the information that you’re referring to specifically is anecdotal. It was not done in a controlled clinical trial, so you really can’t make any definitive statement about it.

                      Donald Trump: (46:05)
Such a lovely question. Look, it may work, and it may not work. I agree with the doctor, what he said. May work, may not work. I feel good about it. That’s all it is. Just a feeling. I’m a smart guy. I feel good about it. We’re going to see.

                          From Wiki:

                          COVID-19

In late January 2020 during the 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak, Chinese medical researchers stated that exploratory research into chloroquine and two other medications, remdesivir and lopinavir/ritonavir, seemed to have "fairly good inhibitory effects" on the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is the virus that causes COVID-19. Requests to start clinical testing were submitted.[42][43] Chloroquine had been also proposed as a treatment for SARS, with in vitro tests inhibiting the SARS-CoV virus.[44]

On 19 February 2020, preliminary results found that chloroquine may be effective and safe in treating COVID-19 associated pneumonia.[45] There is evidence to indicate the efficacy of chloroquine phosphate against SARS-CoV-2 in vitro on Vero cells.[42] The Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Guangdong Provincial Health and Health Commission issued a report stating that chloroquine phosphate "improves the success rate of treatment and shortens the length of patient’s hospital stay" and recommended it for people diagnosed with mild, moderate and severe cases of novel coronavirus pneumonia.[46]

Chloroquine has been recommended by Chinese, South Korean and Italian health authorities for the treatment of COVID-19,[47][48][unreliable medical source?] although these agencies noted contraindications for people with heart disease or diabetes.[49] In February 2020, both drugs were shown to effectively inhibit COVID-19 in vitro,[42] but a further study concluded that hydroxychloroquine was more potent than chloroquine, with a more tolerable safety profile.[50] Preliminary results from a trial suggested that chloroquine is effective and safe in COVID-19 pneumonia, "improving lung imaging findings, promoting a virus-negative conversion, and shortening the disease course."[45]

There are many side effects to Chloroquine. Some to take note of include anxiety, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts. And some studies show mood change may be permanent. Only an idiot (Trump) would promote this drug as a way to prevent Covid19 before testing if it is truly effective, at what dose, and the time period over which it needs to be taken.

People have forgotten the issues caused by Mefloquine a derivate of Chloroquine when prescribed to the military. From the The Pharmaceutical Journal: "Mefloquine (Lariam, Larimef, Mefliam, Mephaquin) is in the news again. Since 1993, the mind- and mood-altering antimalaria drug has been routinely issued as first-line malaria prophylaxis for British soldiers[1]. In the same year, mefloquine became associated with military atrocities when Canadian peacekeepers who were taking mefloquine beat, tortured and shot two local teenagers in Somalia[2]. The pattern of mefloquine-associated military violence continued and, in 2002, four US soldiers based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina (three of whom had returned from Afghanistan, where troops were prescribed the drug) killed their wives[2]. A more recent tragedy involved Staff Sergeant Robert Bales of the US special forces who, in March 2012, while apparently taking mefloquine, killed 16 Afghan civilians[2]."

You are worried about society now; consider the impact of unleashing an drug known to cause paranoia is widely adopted by the public in a time of high stress levels without testing. It is a recipe for disaster.

Make no mistake, Chloroquine and other antimalarials are critical in parts of the world where malaria is common. But already overuse has resulted in development of malaria resistance to chloroquine in some areas. Yet based on Trumps statements there is already a growing shortage in parts of Africa for Chloroquine to be used to prevent Covid19.

Before jumping on the Chloroquine bandwagon, check into the side effects. Do you know anyone that has taken a Chloroquine regiment? I had to take it years ago and was willing to accept the side effect risks over the likelihood of malaria. But I would no take it as a prevention of Corona Virus before it is tested.

I hope researchers continue to test this drug and others for treatment of Covid19 but at no time should anyone be promoting any drug's use as a treatment much less a preventative until it has been tested for the disease.

I don't know anyone on it but there has been wide spread use since 1949.

When you were on it did you have any psychotic episodes where you wanted to kill all the non-lefties in sight?

Sure hope Trump isn't on it with the football sitting right there beside him.
