Now that interest rates are 0% again, you just use your real estate as an ATM and don't bother looking for a job after the bennies run out. Most farmers can and do do that everyday as most people have gotten wealthy in this country through real estate speculation. If we ever have free markets again in this country where government no longer prints money then this strategy will not work and the job search is back on. But so long as the printing press is running only a fool works for a living.

I do sympathize with everyone's struggles, but the AB government basically said flat out here that landlords should be accommodating to tenants. BP is right it is different for farmers but that doesnt mean wage earners shouldnt be prepared for a month or two of no income regardless of reason. We are only a few weeks into this, what's it gonna be like by summer? I still have a mortgage payment to make on my rental property, pretty hard to take it both ways by paying that and giving rent away.

Those positions could be filled domestically?

But I urge farmers not to compare any plight they may have with a wage earning family without an income.
I had one neighbor tell me " now they know how it feels"
NO. We can sell a quarter of land and seed again. We can sell out and live quite well.
Their daily income just dropped. And their retirement became quite different.
If we want empathy we have to give it.
My neighbor has never been past the post office. And succeeded in angering some non farmers.
I guess instead of buying a 500k home they should have bought land...or they could sell their 500k house and live in a lower priced one ....and still have no money....

No doubt that is true. Although it worked with the income at the time. Perhaps we should go back to 50% down rules for lending?
Agree no one needs to eat out every day and drive a vehicle worth 20-30% of their house.
Although, in our town of 800 there are 30 houses for sale all below 250. Some for a year now.
The price people pay for vehicles and toys disgust me. But towns will dry up and people's only equity went poof.
Although resets are necessary if that's what this is, I hold no glee. I am a bitter old man not a space space nt.
