I have family members in that dilemma.

Guess what - the rent bill, the electricity bill, the mortgage, the taxes still come due.

Lots of young people who just bought a house in the past year or 3 and they were already fairly tight for cash flow.

I know of several who just got a house rented and now, no work. They are resourceful and will likely be okay, but not all find their circumstances like that.

Well those same people didn't give a shit about farmers when harvest went off the tracks ....

I say ...tell those people to go borrow some more money...

I have zero phucking sympathy for people that buy an overpriced home with a job for a few months...

Buy a farm and lose a crop
....tough shit is the usual reply from the general public. ..

Apparently there are jobs available if they have to bring in foreign workers....

      Again, you are generalizing.

There are many who would fall into the picture you paint but there are also others who will do whatever they can put their hand to in order to keep on going.

it's not as simple as it sounds.

I seldom disagree with your posts, but this time the evidence does not support it.

I think your painting far to many Canadians with a broad brush with a statement like that. Many people don't know all the circumstances farmers are facing today as they are ill informed. Many people who I meet are generally interested in farming and understand how important farmers are to the well being of Canada.

As for Canadian workers losing their jobs over night, all I can say is I feel sorry for the vast majority of them. No one seen or understood what the impact covid-19 would have, other than the few USA politicians who got the news early on the severity of covid-19 and unloaded all the their shares.

Empathy is needed by all Canadians right now in every sector!

Not sure about Ontario, but my mexican worker gets about $58k for 8 months work. Don't assume they are all minimum wage jobs.

I also am not expecting someone to move from Ontario and maintain two places rather than collect EI. But someone in my town who has a 14 mile commute. Why not?

Very true but it will be tough to pay those cell phone bills with no job and on pogey.

Take Quebec’s lead , collect government money, transfer payments , then work for cash under the table ..... that the way they run half that economy. The French Canadian mob been doing it for decades ..

If I had a fruit vegatable crop to work.
I suspect I would want the offshore.
We're comparing two totally different cultures regarding hiring locals. And two different costs of living when that dollar gets home. Can't compare at all.
Chronically out of work here, you don't want. Recently out of work, you can't afford.

I hear that nonsense from Conservative MPs offices....we are all in this together....nope...wrong ....I spend my money in Canada ...supporting the economy....

People are being given Canadian money to spend elsewhere to get home....

And the general public even after this passes will still not give a shit about farmers.....

The federal ag minister was on TV today talking about foreign workers instead of talking about the issues she has been ignoring for months if not years...

I probably have a few hundred thousand dollars still in the field....to get through there was no help....signed on the dotted line to get more money ....I might be petty about this but I really don't care about people halfway around the world trying to get home....they are receiving more money from my tax dollars than I am ....And my money is spent here...

I have in-laws coming home....have to take them a vehicle to drive themselves home...not really a big deal but its a bit of an inconvenience...

Bucket is right on the money. 99% of the people now a days don’t give a shit about what goes on on a farm. The only time they might care is if the shelves at the grocery store go empty. Even then they will still wanna tell u how to grow it dealing with mother nature’s bullshit. Spoiled asses. Just goggle farming. It’s easy according to Mike Bloomberg.
