There is a point where a hobby turns into a business, in AB it is 99 turkeys.

If she doesn't like that have her start raising ducks, no quota, lots of opportunity there for eggs and meat.
It’s not a slipper slope because nobody wants the system anyways. Ya she should go pay the outrageous price for the quota when the corporate farms inherited it or bought it very low.
    Your an idiot

And if I recall correctly, sheepwheat has enough kids that they could easily have a few thousand Turkeys by that method.

SM = welfare for the rich. why do we need SM for chicken and turkey production anyways?

They do an amazing number of random inspections here to make sure you don’t have too many but our limit for turkeys is 50

Most small producers process themselves or take them to the hutterites for processing. Saying that, I am not sure how happy they would be processing more than the non quota limit because they also raise turkeys.

yes I think that's how some expand their off quota flocks. I have been told there has been exceptions given for some doing pasturing chicken in the summertime.

If you google it there are a few ads for turkey quota for sale, one even says in small allotments. Could be right about age, dont know.

I'm not saying it is essential to keep a SM policy for turkeys. But like it or not it's the current law. Choose to break the law thats fine but don't complain when you get caught, that's all I'm saying. I may do a few questionable things around my farm from time to time, but would not encourage my kids to cheat the system, it's a life lesson. (Not suggesting you are Sheepwheat)

You can only have 100 turkeys by location, not per person.

Since you dont know, a significant portion of farms are now incorporated. Virtually all of them being family corporations. Tax structure does not make someone's business evil does it?

SM in Canada has kept families running those farms, it's easy to get jealous of the perceived benefits (mostly cash flow) they have, I understand. Check out the poultry industry stateside, there is like 2 or 3 players that run the entire show. Cant speak for Eastern Canada but it's not like that out west.

Personally, I don't care for SM either.
But here, yet again we have one group of farmers trying to tear another down.

Sm was designed to support small farms(50 cow
Dairies, small poultry farms) now the majority of the quota is on large operations maxed out on debt and quota trying to get rich at all costs( lots
Won’t even hire locals, they want cheap foreign ers) and bid land up so no one in any other farming sector even has a hope.
But I’m just jealous and your more informed

Poultry sector a lot more concentrated than you think out west
