World needs every acre seeded?

One would think with the way things may
Turn out the last thing the world would
Need is a crop shortage? Even if every acre
Is seeded will there be inputs fertilizer,
Chemical, fuel if businesses shut down?

Both our federal and provincial governments
Dropped rhe ball on being prepared for the virus
It seems they can’t catch up in that and
Are not even focused on what essential
Things should be taken care of besides
The virus.

What about money for all these inputs
Tons of crop our input bills crazy interest being
Charges crop insurance canceling contracts
Sask ag taking land away from guys after
Tripling rents? Grain drying costs? They don’t
Want our fall grain will they even take any
Spring threshed? Banks appear lost as to
What to do.
Mortgages supposedly pushed back yet
People are saying it isn’t happening foreclosure
On the way? Shouldn’t things just be halted
Instead of destroying everyone that’s
Struggling? Just the rich will get richer?
Fk everyone else?

Should we be setting up processing of
Food here for the basics?

Where Is our sask party you know
The ones that Do so much for farmers?

Where is nfu?

Where is apas?

Where is canola growers? Wheat growers?
Barley growers etc etc

I know we may be changing crop plans after next week if SHTF.
We have most of what we need for current plans , but not interested is growing crops that nobody may want .
Time will tell at this point , but we are thinking hard .....
More peas
More Blackbeans
Maybe some other edible beans
Feed barley .. cows still need to eat
Lentils possibly again .
Most of these can be hauled off farm , no need for rail .

Will canola crushers keep going hard ????
Exports could crash
Too bad we have extremely limited wheat milling in western Canada .......
this shipping out raw bulk products for decades could haunt us now

Or plan C , don’t seed an acre . Save the tremendous expenses, keep fert for next year . Clean up land a bit . Hit reset next year.

At this rate, the govt will be telling you what to grow and how much of it and what price you are going to get for it.

So don't worry, its all taken care for you.

Nobody is clamouring for more food supply. If it was an issue wouldn't govts be out there asking farmers to be part of the firewall on this event. Zero relief going their way and with asset prices resetting, that could mean commodities resetting too. I sure as hell wouldn't be trying to run off 60bu canola and hope it finds a home. Cereals and pulses, more versatile food sources, easily storable for long periods.

I have loaded the cash advances just in case it all goes sideways.

Unless of course, we feel like suddenly the government is going to get on board with us?

Newsflash. They aren’t. So we gotta figure it out on our own. Each of us has to do what it takes, and it will look different for all of us. But there are several ways to stop this reliance or the hope that the government will step in and help us.

Hint. Mass producing export and railway reliant commodities in huge amounts, while relying on massive inputs, sky high machinery costs, isn’t working, hasn’t been working, and never will work, at least in western Canada. I think we have crossed a tipping point.

So time to start thinking outside the bloody box. Government isn’t going to magically save our farms. Nfu, apas, canola growers? Them neither.

Have a little chat with the man in the mirror and the family in your life. See what those people can come up with. The sky is literally the limit to agriculture in Saskatchewan. But we need to look at it differently than ever before. I have high hopes and faith in our sector. I think we could grow the farming population. But not the way we have been doing agriculture. It should be obvious it isn’t working.

1000 percent agreed and it is a greed....I always think off selling and getting back in at a lower price...but know it would not happen...

Those that want to farm many many acres lurk around every corner and listen intently to any sign of someone thinking of getting out...

What they don't realize is they would be far better off doing as you suggest..

If there is a silver lining to this cloud, it is that this thing has hit at a time of year when there is still some wiggle room on adjusting acres to the most beneficial crop.

The challenge is to identify it.

We are looking at raising a chunk of potatoes. Not huge, but enough to make it worth doing with mechanical help.

Some of the more famous lines like " we need to look out for one another" , or whatever line of bs you put in. I know of a few in this area that are going to have a rude awakening from a few of "the little guys".

One guy came to me and suggested “helping you out in anyway I can, like if you need me to rent your land...” I kid you not. I guess if my main tractor is worth what his auger is worth I must look like I need help?

Another came by and asked me if he could help me out by buying a couple quarters of land!

Leaves a sour taste in my mouth for sure. Lol

Who knows what’s happening next month let alone a year from now? We just need some seed delivered which we should make happen shortly. Looking for a couple big fuel tanks too. Otherwise full steam ahead and hopefully everyone makes it through to the “other side” .......... whatever that is.

No sense in worrying about $hit beyond your control. Stress kills.

The sun still came up today and one day closer to spring although the snow is still drifting here.

If someone doesn’t want to put a crop in I fully support them.

This “crop” is due in less than a month wether I like it or not. Enjoy your day in paradise. 🍀
