Every 1% unemployment kills 40k in the states. Look at the comments under on how they came to the conclusion. Now think about here and the impending suicides. Saw a kid killed his grandfather on farm here in Sask. This lockdown needs to end. The cure is worse then the virus.

Any particular reason you want to see many many many more people die instead of flattening the curve to not overwhelm the medical system?

          Is it?

Is a healthy, productive young person with a family they can't support, and skills they can't use, who is facing losing it all, so takes their own life, really worth the same as someone at the end of their life, with multiple underlying medical conditions who if they didn't die of Covid today, would have died of the regular flu next week? We have no idea if it is a one to one ratio, but it might be worth stepping back and doing the cold hard math on this one, and choosing the least worst option. There are no best options.

Omg this stupid talk is why this lock down has to be longer than it should.
Obviously how can you assume to know what the situation was in that particular incident. Mental issues for how long? Holy fk if us farmers packed it in that easy and went nuts over our farming times there wouldn’t be anyone left alive in the rural areas long ago not just over losing a job in only a few weeks?
No wonder Wacko job trump says this horse shit he has a an obvious following.
Doing the math on how may young people are dieing from this? How many non related surgeries and treatments are being postponed and causing other deaths that shouldn’t happen? Doctors nurses dieing? You *** idiots think that’s just gonna go away?
Shut that Fox News horseshit off. Brainwashed idiots.

You think the virus isn’t serious do something good volunteer to catch it and have all these tested vaccines tried on you and your whole family for that matter i mean really what could it hurt right? Lol

              AlbertaFarmer5 please read this!

              https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-the-hammer-and-the-dance-be9337092b56

This is about allowing our medical folks a decent chance to help people.

If there are only enough ICU beds for 20 percent of the sick people... many many more people than just those with Covid-19 die.

All the best and I hope you and yours have a safe spring that does not require any medical attention! Be Safe!!

Alberta Covid-19 stats... looks like we are near the peak of Covid-19. Alberta Health have good info on our progress!

April 2 Alberta update on Corvid-19-[ one day increase since April1] from Alberta Health:
              1. April 2 Alberta 57096 tested [3952 more since April 1(53144)];
              2. 986 positives [115 more since April 1( 871)];
              3.13 dead [2 more since April 1 (11)]
              4. 67 Hospitalizations
              5. 21 Admissions to ICU
              6. 61% cases in Calgary
              7. 49% Male

https://covid19stats.alberta.ca/ give the statistics which are starting to peak for Alberta.

Have a look at the Geospatial and age data:

87% of people being infected come from Calgary and Edmonton. The vast majority are 20-54 years old... because Alberta has a younger average age of our population.

If someone would be kind enough to 'hot link' these two sites that would be appreciated. Thanks.

It would be nice if we could get tested to find out if what we got coming home in December was it or not. My 16 and 11 yr old both missed sports, school and coughed till they puke. Maybe we had it already? 3- 70 yr old men, locally, were on ventilators before rapidly fading away, all in the same week before Christmas, all 3 had other health issues. You can't lock people up and expect society to not fall apart. A govt paycheck helps for a week or 2 but lets be honest here, we know how leveraged most people are. You can't fix this with free money, it's only delaying the inevitable. My dentist moved into a brand new building, full load, new equipment etc. think she's getting enough to recover from this? She's in her late 30s and all her staff are young. The destruction of the shutdown will cause people to lose everything. I get the curve flattening, mom has breast cancer and dad has leukemia and are in treatment. But like dad said, it's no big deal for us, but watching the young people walking past the house every night after supper you can tell there's a ton of stress, not many smiles, they are losing their drive. Things will slowly keep degrading and there'll be more stories about multiple homicides in homes. Everyone will think, oh just another mental health issue when it's actually a leading indicator. We are going to see some dark dark shit. Consider yourself lucky to be on a farm, at least we have space.

Good response. Few and far between here on wienerville lately. Seems to be getting to people's head for sure. I need to check out for a while.
For me, it's about overloading our system, and not giving it to somebody else. And I'm used to being a hermit.
                  But WOW the cost.

Just imagine a reality show with Wheelie Bin, aggie and mussie and a couple of others all quarantined together.

A catchy name like "Chuckie's Covid Cohort Crack-up", maybe...

                    Wow.

What’s with Switzerland it’s business as usual there. I think they are the only country In the world not shutting down their economy.

Macdon, when you talk about young people losing their drive, immediately the situation in Alberta comes to mind. How can the young be mentally healthy? They have been robbed and brutalized by despotic eastern thugs. They are living a nightmare. Just saying sorry to all of those who have gone all in and got hammered by a “nut house”.

Your absolutely correct MD. Now that the country is in depression, so many will never see an opportunity to realize their potential like was common a generation ago. Every one is proud of being able to live like a hermit. Unfortunately that is not a business incubator. Man was created as a social being and we need each other. If the economy is to grow in the future we need to interact to grow new business ventures which will be sorely needed in the future. Think about contacts that informed you of an opportunity in the past. These are invaluable. As far as overwhelming the health care system, I am hearing reports of reports of shut down in lots of parts of the health care system because people are not coming in to routine procedures for fear of getting covid. There is a bit of retooling needed of course. Maybe having more private health care options would allow the system to be more responsive in the future. AB has only 21 or so hospitalized so doesn't seem overwhelming to me.

Keep in mind that Coronavirus did not cause the economic crisis. This is basically a debt bubble which has now burst. Coronavirus was just the pin. Efforts to contain the debt bubble that blew up in the U.S. in 2008 resulted in the creation of a worldwide debt bubble which has now burst, and now includes many levels of government.

Thanks to zero percent interest rates, not only governments but private businesses went heavily into debt. Most businesses are producing goods at very slim margins. Now those margins are negative for many. A couple of weeks of shut down and free cash flow is all used up. A month of this and you are in a big hole that you might not get out of. Many businesses will simply close for good.

We are likely looking at an L shaped economic recovery.

Also consider how many people are going to die when your monopoly health care provider (your province) goes bankrupt.

This is not over by a long shot, even when the curve flattens. We need to start thinking about what happens next. Things just won't go back to normal in the blink of an eye.
