My guess is that there is a little more to this story than what is being reported. It is very likely that we normally source these supplies from china because that is what we do in canuckistan. Unfortunately china's supplies are a little tied up right now because I've heard they have the flu over there. I am like premier Ford a bit disappointed that the president did make the same decision that Germany did when the Italians came knocking. Anyways wondering what premier Ford is planning to do to unleash Ontario manufacturing? They could have done that months ago. Biggest things lower to do is reduce regulation and lower labor cost by firing 1/3 of the civil service. Neither will happen so domestic production of ppe will not happen either. The other issue here is that the US is doing this under war time legislation and appropriately so since the evidence to thinking folk is that we are dealing with a chinese bio terrorism weapon. It was a priority to get the infection spread in the US and that is why there are significantly more infections there rather than canuckistan which is a chinese satellite state.

"Trump plans to add $4.832 trillion to the debt in his first term.8 That's a 24% increase from the $20.245 trillion debt at the end of Obama's last budget for FY 2017. If he remains in office for a second term, he plans to add $8.3 trillion for both terms. Trump had promised to eliminate the debt during his campaign."
Trump knew how to go broke as a business man and it looks like he'll do just fine with the USA as well.
Trump certainly had lots of practice so it will come easy for him!

That's my point We have the materials so why don't we just make the masks and not depend on a foreign country?

They have been on order by FEMA for a month...from 3M... not one delivered to US from US 3M plant... brokers instead selling N95 3M masks to highest bidders outside US. 3M has promised the masks to FEMA for over 2 weeks... said they were in transport to FEMA when in fact they were not. Can understand why FEMA is Angry... Trump had no choice but to call 3M on their dishonesty to FEMA. Trump got the industrial N95 masks quick approval... then 3M shipped to brokers instead of FEMA order.

Pretty clear now the initial mask theories of not to wear them was all lies. And I get it in the regard they lied because they had short supply so that the health workers would get them instead as they should.
But that lie added to the spread. Now they re saying wear anything that you can make yourself at home to cover your face. Wouldnt have been that difficult for some companies to start sewing even cloth masks which would have helped and maybe would be better as you could wash them daily. This should have been done months ago. No leadership at any level.
The lack of common sense provided to the public is astounding.

Get real folks - we're talking about paper face masks that we were happy to import from China as recently as 30 days ago. If we can't build paper face masks in Canada we don't deserve to survive this BS. President Trump is looking out for his citizens. I wish I could say the same for our own leadership.

After numerous studies by bureaucrats it would be Quebec with the source of the inputs from BC....less efficient but more jobs...
