could you imagine what this virus would be doing if schools were open.sporting events going on etc.etc.The seasonal flu does have a death rate but with basically zero precautions.

Back to original post. This is really troubling, and not only because of mass infections of people working at the plant. More importantly, 5% of the pork is no longer being processed and flowing into the retail market so there is the potential for shortages and price increases. Not that this will ever flow back to primary pork producers because they just lost 5% of their market for a minimum of the next 2 weeks likely meaning additional costs for farms and lower prices.

Many on this forum demand less imports of goods and to bring the jobs back to this country. But when companies have consolidated to the point that the closure of a single plant can cut 5% of the supply, is scenario any better? Consolidation of industry and corporate vertical integration has occurred for the same economic reasons that companies have offshored production and creates as much if not more supply problems than off shore production when black swan events occur.

Don’t forget Africa swine fever it has dropped off of the media radar if it makes it’s way to N/A a lot of the kill capacity won’t be needed at least for a while. Although with the diminished travel swine fever may be kept at bay.

Have you got some links to all these front line workers dying? I have family that work on the so called front line and they are curious to where these deaths are taking place.
