Then you have Scheer who wants the Government to give aid to the Oil Companies. Where did all the billions$$$ go when they were profiting just a few months ago? Not to mention the hay days of 2010-2014.

It all boils down to which sector has the best lobbyists, and we all know how well us farmers are at working together.

Bit of an eye opener tonight, the usual shelves were bare or poorly stocked , TP and bleach and certain cleaning supplies.
Flour and yeast are scarce, sugar too sometimes. But boy was the produce section well picked over. Lots of empty space and shelves.

Would have been nice to browse around more but got the essentials, management reminded us the store closed 20 minutes ago.

I don't think I've ever seen the produce section so depleted, makes ya think.
No shortage of anything around here except lysol , peroxide and hand sanitizer
Was getting produce in tisdale yesterday , looks real nice
The price gouging is in full force though

This article seems to be directed from Ont fruit and veggie producers. Makes no mention of western ag. I dont know anyone not planning on seeding nor have I heard of banks devaluing land.

Their union makes sure that they get paid quite nicely. Check out what a shelf stocker or cashier makes per hour. Not sure about the non unionized corner store worker though, but their usually from, get ready for it.......CHINA!

Alberta gets 1.5 bil from provincial for O&G to build pipeline and now 1.7 bil from fed to clean up O&G mess. How many acres would grain farmers have to take out of production or reduce fertilizer to lower production to bring prices back or at least hold.

The sad reality is that if all farms in Canada were to quit production, there would be no real difference in food price or availability. Lots of food production in the US and elsewhere that could easily fill our gap and our product is already priced equal to what ever competitive products would be delivered here. Competition in only great if you have a competitive advantage such as cheap labor, or fuel, or credit or land costs. Sadly most of Canada has lost all of its competitive edges.

Just like the oil patch, Canadians need to find new jobs for the oil patch workers and farmers as both are industries with surplus production that the world doesn't really want to pay for. This is a long term thing and short term aid is needed, but a transition needs to start happening.

It is not that we do not have a lot
                        Of potential to produce.
Just have to bring the costs in line.
                        Seed ,fertilizer, transport, basis.
                        Taxes,
Are customers gonna have any money
                        To buy what we got.,
It is a new world, not sure if it
Is time to buy a cow , chickens,
And plant a garden or not.

anybody notice that cfa gets national headlines when talking about eastern farmers? didn't hear much on the national news last fall with the harvest from hell and carbon tax on grain drying.
