Just like the oil patch, Canadians need to find new jobs for the oil patch workers and farmers as both are industries with surplus production that the world doesn't really want to pay for. This is a long term thing and short term aid is needed, but a transition needs to start happening.

It is not that we do not have a lot
Of potential to produce.
Just have to bring the costs in line.
Seed ,fertilizer, transport, basis.
Taxes,
Are customers gonna have any money
To buy what we got.,
It is a new world, not sure if it
Is time to buy a cow , chickens,
And plant a garden or not.

And what has our provincial government and apas etc said about the harvest from hell that isn’t over?
Cash advances pushed back many of them wer paying last years bill they’re not paid this year advances slow coming out so bill not paid so guess what acres not seeded and not just a few of them either.
Fed gov offered cash payment prov said no need programs are in place????
As far as getting food from the USA are we not hearing they’re in worse shape than us for controlling rhe virus you think we re just gonna get their food like before? How many of their plants are shutting down?
Who’s gonna have money to buy food? Yes demand will be same ir more if other countries can’t produce also but look at the tolls on other populations where is the money gonna come from?

CFA simply trying to lobby for fruit and vegetable growers in Canada to help get cheap labour back in.
End of the day there will be never a food shortage in Canada . We are in the same boat as Australia, just look at the article that Mallee posted . Same applies here.
When push comes to shove they will have to hire someone as the food will be produced , they are just looking for a handout to reduce labour costs .
It all comes down to the farmer , wether a fruit , vegetable, grains and or animal producer is not even getting near enough of the value we need to get . Far far to much cream is not only skimmed off the top but we are all left with pennies for what we produce and the risk we take. Way too many taking far to much in between us and the consumer . It’s been that way for far too long and now it will raise its ugly head .
The sad part is we will be targeted hard to pay for a lot of the mess being created , not anyone else “up the food chain†.Last edited by furrowtickler; Apr 19, 2020, 07:14.
