Our Agricultural Sector and Food Supply Chain

Over the past few weeks, a number of issues have risen in the agricultural sector due to the secondary effects of the COVID-19. These issues have the potential to cause economic harm to the agricultural sector and negatively affect the food supply in Canada.

Conservative MPs have been receiving phone calls and emails from farmers not able to qualify for the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) after the federal Minister of Agriculture encouraged farmers to utilize the program. As a result, the Conservative Caucus has asked the Agriculture Minister to specify what the government is doing to help producers who do not qualify for the CEBA.

For weeks, agriculture stakeholders have been asking the federal government to make agriculture and food processing a mandatory and essential service. Four meat processing plants have either closed or reduced shifts during the pandemic. Yet for agriculture, the government continues to be reactive instead of proactive.

This must now change. It's time for the government to provide certainty to the agricultural sector, and to all Canadians.

I'm sure that canada has a massive amount of debt owed to china, so Trudeau and trump should tell china that that debt is going to pay for their attack.

Then, shut travel down to and from china, and all trade, forever. Why cant we produce products here? It would hurt for a bit but after a few years we would be rolling. Look at ww2, the americans and Canadian people won that war on the backs of their industrial might. Study it, you will be shocked. American interstate highways built in just a few years! But, then china came in with empty promises and cheap junk and the west fell for it, time to say no thank you, we are doing it ourselves. Problem is, guys like Trudeau and his followers believe that we need to have anyone who wants come here for any reason and if they contribute good, if they dont,someone will pick up the slack. China needs to pay a steep and permanent price for all the hell they have unleashed on the world with these diseases that keep coming out of there. They never seem to feel the impact on their own soil, they just seem to get more powerful every time something like this happens. This time will be no different, they will ramp up their economic might even higher once the dust settles on their latest pandemic. Our friends and families will pay the price.

IF most of the planet agrees, the debt owed to China CAN be written off. Just takes a world commitment, should work just fine, NO DEBT, they PAY for the economic/virus hell they put us through. Either intentional or GROSS negligence/stupidity, still ALL blame falls on CHINA! After that they will be fu cked, never a concern again. But still be hungry...

Bucket how is the $1.7 billion for abandoned well reclamation going to help oil and gas companies cash flow or for that matter their liquidity?! It is supposed to provide work for 5200 people. Tens of thousands have lost their jobs. Justin Trudeau will use this pandemic to down size western Canadian oil production and be able to blame the pandemic for its demise not his policies. But here is what I am curious about, as I have stated before the federal equalization payments are funded in part by revenue from Aberta's personal and corporate taxes. If Alberta corporations are no longer profitable and wages are severely reduced due to the downsizing of western oil and gas production what does he do to replace the revenue?!

If you're farm is structured correctly and paying salaries you might just qualify.

Do you operate a "lifestyle" farm or a "corporate" farm. Don't have to farm 5000, 10,000 or 20,000+ acres to be incorporated.

The 10% wage subsidy does apply to farmers. The 40,000 loan (30,000 to be repaid) is based on your business T4 Summary and payroll size. They changed it on Friday to allow more to qualify. If your payroll for 2019 was between 20,000 and 1.5 million, you qualify. I applied for this one Friday....took 10 minutes.

Who is deferring payable 2019 corporate and/or personal income taxes? Who is deferring payable 2020 corporate and/or personal income tax instalments?

Personal income tax rates increased by 25%.

Increased Carbon tax rates.

GST increased to 8%.

Oh, and how about a nice across the board 25% tax increase on booze and smokes.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. Canada is being steered by a blind group of politicians. Zero vision for the future. Saskatchewan isn’t much better. Used to support the sask party but after last year’s budget attacking farmers I think my support will be short lived. Actually don’t know if I will vote as the other options are worse.
President Trump actually cares for his farmers and food supply. Wish he bought out western Canada. Wexit here I come.
So sad. This used to be a good place to hang your hat.
