That's hilarious we tried that also back in the 90s.

But the seed was cheap and you could clean your own if I remember. right.

Looked great till one night it got really cold and game over.

Just reading the DePutter weekly newsletter over coffee, surprising to see summerfallow acres are going to be up 22%? That’s surprising considering price of fert was down, and commodity prices have been going up, except red wheat. Are farmers sick of the high inputs?
      Guess that’s a dumb question.
Had a neighbour tell me last winter he was going back to half and half, I don’t think he will.

I think at the time of the report it still looked like mid winter in many areas that had crop out . The expectations were it would not get harvested on time to get a crop in ?

Two nights -6 and-7 forecast here.

Hope it doesn't freeze the new grass and make it turn purple.

Takes about 2 weeks off the grazing before it gets going again.

Hopefully it's hardened off enough as we haven't had many nights it didn't freeze.

One of those years that the weeks just waste away.

Could there be more fallow, because of the cheaper fuel price?

Regarding summerfallow. Could it possibly be that some farmers are struggling?

Well good thing we started early and took the wheat off then between the recent rain events we got the canola. So this morning the longest harvest of our families history ended. Lots will finish today but few will need some more time.

Drills are ready to roll and fields are getting harrowed and sprayed.

Oh all spring threshed was dry and only lost min grade.

                Plant 2020 here we go

                  Good going Saskfarmer!

                  That sounds rough Wiseguy!

To wet before today to start seeding and now today it has been raining since about 10 am.
On the bright side maybe this rain will get rid of all the remaining snow.

About 15 years ago, we didnt get everything seeded here, too wet spring, so we left about 25 % unseeded, summerfallowed and fixed the drainage ditches. Summerfallow hasnt been practiced here since the mid 70's, so it was my first experience having black dirt that summer. Anyways, the following year the yields on those fields were really good, so maybe giving some land a 'rest' isnt such a bad idea (that is if your not paying $120/ac cash rent on it).

If we wouldn't have been able to have a nice spring harvest and had 1/3 acres that we couldn't get. Yes, we were willing to not seed 1/3 of the farm and chem fallow.

The ground is White at the farm this morning. Finished just in time.

Here is a little Friday Fact.

Trudeau Gave the Arts yes Actors in Canada $500 Million. Actors

                        Farmers get a ****ing Loan.

Farmers get a big Farm Announcement that is 80 mill to processors and the rest was recycled Money for cows.

                        Primary producers got nothing.

                        Does anyone see a pattern?

Can't happen here, has to be covered.....even if you do fallow, you would need a chemical cultivator.
The technology and products are there to give it what it needs.
Only benefit I see is no host for disease, but pathogens live in soil and on residue anyway.

If you have big lease payments on land or equipment or mortgage payments....most people would have to grow something on their land to pay for dirt that doesnt pay for itself!!!!!!
