Are days of non moderated forums over?

Brendan Leipsic was just released by the Washington Capitals for posts he made in a PRIVATE chatroom about women and fellow NHL hockey players. His brother Jeremy has been kicked off the U of M hockey team because of the chat. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/news/capitals-cut-ties-with-leipsic-after-disparaging-comments/ar-BB13O0Jm?ocid=spartandhp https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/news/capitals-cut-ties-with-leipsic-after-disparaging-comments/ar-BB13O0Jm?ocid=spartandhp

I am amazed by what some people post on Agriville about other posters and third parties. To think that an NHL player can lose his US$700,000 contract over what he said in a private chat has to make you question what it may cost you if someone finally takes offense to a meme or name calling on a public forum. And could that risk extend to the platform itself, if the host has been shown to censor posts in the past? Maybe it is time for more moderation of all forums and a little more civility by posters.

When the radical left steps back from the fringe, then we will have civility again.

Not saying to ban free speech. You can say what ever you want. However, should you be held accountable for what you say? Leipsic was to the tune of losing his job. If you post something on a public forum about someone else which you cannot prove, how much are you risking in a society obsessed with suing?

Absolutely I think people are too open on social media. Usually the more offensive they are the more they preach freedom of speech. It’s easy to have confidence when you feel like there can be no repercussions.

Call someone names in real life you could be liable for a kick in the shin. Call someone names online you get to laugh while you watch them get upset.

Is it right or fair to be judged by employers based on your online profiles? No. I don’t think people shouldn’t be offered jobs or should be fired because their Facebook shows they party a lot or have unsavoury opinions. At the same time, I don’t think people should feel so comfortable being miserable towards the majority of the world either. The latter should just come down to good manners. You can show you disagree with people or don’t support them without being a d bag.

Leipsic was released because he is not good at playing NHL hockey. He hasn't scored since November, hasn't got a point since Jan and was a healthy scratch since Wash picked up Kovalchuk Feb 23rd. Wash released him for hockey, roster and salary reasons just with the convenient excuse of his comments to make them look like they are doing the right thing.

I could be wrong - likely am - but it appears to me that someone who just got finished saying that someone else should not call others nasty names, just used a nasty name to describe those whose language they find unsavoury.

You cannot make this S*** up.

But it's so typical of that side of the political spectrum that it's no longer surprising.

And that hypocrisy, my friends, is what makes leftists so dangerous.

I can cuss like a sailor so not sure if it’s me you’re saying finds certain language unsavoury. I also wasn’t speaking about anybody specifically to be calling them any kind of bag. It was a generic reference to people who act as if they don’t have the manners their mom gave them.

Glad my previous post allowed you to discern my entire political ideology though. At least it accomplished something... assumptive.

When he played JR one coach described him as " A selfish little p rick that always managed the steal a few points".

                            Is it about personal responsibility??
Our society seems to be forgetting that fundamental concept. Making it someone else's job.
Life is hard and harder when your stupid. You can't legislate stupidity out of existence.
Be aware when you are wronging a man and don't stand for being wronged yourself.
They should show John Wayne movies in grade school LoL.

I agree but when I make a stupid decision, it usually only effects me and sometimes my family but can be corrected in a short period of time.

When a person or persons in Ottawa make a bad decision it affects millions of Canadian lives which takes years to correct, if ever.

That's the only reason I go hard on the PM and the people that surround him, it's nothing personnel.

If Justin wasn't involved in politics I wouldn't even acknowledge his existence.
