Sounds like it came out of Calgary, hit Acme and Linden, made it to 21 and then just followed that. Huxley got hit hard too. Crop destroyer the whole way. It sure had staying power!

I’m 10 miles west and only got heavy wind and rain.

Had this conversation today with a neighbour about whether it’s better too wet or too dry. We both agreed a bit on the dry side is better but not dust bowl conditions. Could use a good 3 day rain now. Sister lives in Sherwood Park and she said she’s sick of the rain and shitty weather. If I could I would take it for a few weeks. Not like what they have been having for more than a month tho. Gotta love mother bitchy nature

It totally depends on what you’ve been through. If you haven’t had too much rain cause zero yield, your gunna pick too much rain. If you haven’t had too dry cause zero yield, your gunna pick too dry.

It’s all relative to what you’ve experienced. In my experience, I Choose dry. Much cheaper and you can still work outside.

They have bred drought tolerant varieties do they breed moisture tolerant or hail tolerant? How do the drought tolerant ones work?

Simple life cannot exist without water, maybe you have not experienced too dry. If this rain piddles out there wont be a crop at all. We've had 20% of our acres flooded out before, what survives makes up for it.

I have been communicating with the barley breeders about this very topic. Because I almost won't grow barley here thanks to it being such a wimp regarding excess moisture and minor hail. They are starting to at least evaluate the damage to different varieties from hail and moisture. No dedicated program to develop these traits though. Drought tolerant basically just respirate less water, keep the stomata closed to conserve moisture in hot weather. To be flood tolerant, the roots need to be able to function in anaerobic conditions, need to borrow some rice genes.

I' sure you are really going to appreciate the feedback now that you are finished...

But, if your soil is anything like our grey wooded, those duals might be more effective with some more space between them, assuming the final drives can take the stress. I find tight together duals are nearly useless in sticky mud, they just fill up, ball up and become one giant sticky spinning ball of mud. Leave some gap between and they stay clean and at least have enough traction to propel themselves. Perhaps you are smarter than me and stay out of those places, and just need the extra flotation to keep from breaking through though.
