Chuck, can you kindly correct us and provide us with the actual statistic then? I have been under the impression that the 70% stat came from the MMIW report as well.

There is no doubt that some or a lot of the missing and murdered women and children happened at the hands of indigenous people. The RCMP provided numbers that were based on a small sample study. So what the actual number is is a question that can't be easily answered.
Regardless of who committed the crimes or what happened there was a lot of indifference and in some cases botched investigations and cases where nothing was done. Many families testified that the police and justice system failed them. Just like in Thunder Bay indigenous kids would show up dead and the police did little to investigate because it was just another indigenous kid. In short many believe indigenous kids don't matter or it was their own fault. That is systemic racism.
If you are indigenous, the rates of violence and homicide are much higher than the general population. Allowing all the things that affect indigenous people to happen without concern, or a shared responsibility for our history of abuse and racism is what is at the core of the issue.
"This genocide has been empowered by colonial structures, evidenced notably by the Indian Act, the Sixities Scoop, residential schools, and breaches of human and Inuit, Metis and First Nations rights, leading directly to the current increased rates of violence, death and suicide in Indigenous populations".Last edited by chuckChuck; Jun 21, 2020, 06:44.

How is it that we can discount the RCMP report of 70%, without providing any contrary evidence, and a more accurate number? If I was cynical, I would almost think that if it were less than the 70%, the numbers would have been released by someone by now to prove their point.

Policing is the job of the police. They were the ones who didn't investigate thoroughly enough and in some cases didn't bother investigating at all. The 70% estimate is based on a small sample of RCMP cases and cant be used as fact for the rest.
The Commissioner finally acknowledged systemic racism exists in the RCMP. Now you need to accept it and move on. Racism is a reality in this country. Give up trying to deny it exists or is not a serious problem.
Have a great Fathers day!

Don't you think that if it was much less than 70% that It would be all over the media?
A similar dearth of data exists for FASD among FN. Anecdotally, almost all of the FN foster children I went to school with were somewhere on the fetal alcohol spectrum(talk about denying someone opportunities) yet try to find stats on this horrible self inflicted scourge, and how it devastates generation after generation. Apparently that subject is taboo as well.

There is way too much left unsaid on this file, seems like only one side is talking and alot of inconvenient truths get left unsaid.
I doubt anyone denies there's a problem and some of the initial causes of the problems, seems the solutions lack consensus.Last edited by farmaholic; Jun 21, 2020, 12:11.

Of course the multicultural and political correct RCMP reports are racist and can’t be used for reliable data.
