Canadian Wheat Board mulls leasing ocean vessels (REUTERS)

"The Canadian Wheat Board is mulling over leasing ocean vessels and developing other long-term freight agreements, senior officials told farmers at a series of meetings over the past month."

Canada (I dont take government contract money) Steamship Lines and PM squared - PM PM (Paul Martin) will be impressed.

Aside from the square PM's "non involvment" in the Steamship Lines, I like the thought train. I certainly agree the CWB should have a pat on the back for such consideration. Unless, of course, it was initiated from Canada Steamship Lines. No, that couldn't possibly happen.

If we are allowed market choice... the CWB can rent the space shuttle and deliver wheat to the moon for all I care.

But until someone can give strong evidence of proper risk management, fair cash pricing,...

reasonable spreads between grades and classes of CWB grains,...

why would you have them mess around in something else?

Is managing ocean liners now a specialty of the CWB? Knowing how things operate at the CWB, they will end up booking boats long term at the most expensive freight market in history!

I am so excited because here is an investment of a lifetime. Hopefully Tricycle will issue 'ship future' notes.

          Farmers can send them millions.

The CWB will attend a Liberal Fundraiser so they can meet with Paul Martin(they might even get introduced to the Minister of the CWB!), and form a "quasi" partnership.

The farmer/Tricycle notes can fund the Canadian shipping arm of CWB/Martin's and pay taxes because we are patriotic, and Martin can finance his half with money from the Federal Business Development Bank.

The CWB organic manager Donna Youngdahle that I hear doesn't market organic grain can become the new Shipper Manager.

Ships coming and going and we can start taking on potash and oil and silk.

Well, I'm on my way to the bank. Demurrage holidays, here we come!!!

Oh, we have a Captain Ritter, won't he fit the part?

          Who's the pirate, though?

            Boone;

You are sure right about the Titanic sailing....

I heard a rumor that part of the Titanic is in Canada... Winnipeg to be specific!

            PLEASE let me off!

Obviously the CWB sees the need for expanding its boat fleet....

432 Main in Winnipeg obviously needs more deck chairs...

Please do not ask me to pay for them and ride with you...again!

I am seasick and want off the boat!

You and Incognito are welcome to bask in the sunlight of the CWB's radiant performance...

Remember these are the folks that take no responsibility for any mistakes... and depend or our money to do everything... without being accountable to anyone who cares, or could stop this insanity.

Please, just give me the choice to avoid this disaster!

LOL...so much for a balanced approach.

Tom: please look for anywhere I've posted that the CWB was doing an admirable job marketing.

Boone and I will be both hanging from a tree on Wellington Cr and my right wing friends are jumping off the ship. Geez.

Let me tell you this: To be recognized in Ottawa or Washington, you need to have balance. The left-wing nuts and the far right get discounted. And I am far from a Liberal. In the farm policy debate, you can have a hidden agenda, but you better move to the center to get heard.

Just ask Colin Carter, Hubert Esquirol, Nettie Wiebe et al.

I'm sure Beswick told you the same, Tom.

                Incognito;

This is exactly why the CWB chooses to fail.

Take benchmarkeing CWB performance for example.

Huge expense was ignored... when benchmarking proved the CWB did a rotten job, and the info gained was covered up and trashed.

This is not honest, fair, or defensible.

I asked at the Carsland "CWB Corporate Accountability Mtg." what happened to the benchmarking studies.

"We report to the directors" was the answer when I asked about why the results were not in the 02-03 annual report. Ward refused to even talk about the price benchmarking study... which he knew the question was about.

I have though long and hard about the "balance" issue as you have called it!

If you are in a tug -of- war, with an opposition force, do you drop the rope and run around to help your opponent?

We are in a fight for the survival of many younger farmers... who need to be up to speed in 10 years (with marketing especially) to do a good job of farming when older folks can't work on the farm anymore.

The CWB has done a huge disservice and un told damage to our rural ag communities by it's communist retoric. CWB/Goodale's enforcment of anachy that drives innovation and creative thinking... out of our communities...,

Instead they drive fear, hate, and poverty into our communities.

I will never thank Goodale for doing this, and neither did Ken Beswick.

By the way, where did being "politically correct" ever get me?

                In reality...

a warm feeling for a few moments...

Just in time to realise that everyone from everwhere was *raping and *pitting on me... and when everythig cooled off after, I was a sorry stinking freezing mess!!!!

Come on Incognito, let's have a little sport. Think about this one:

The 2005 Accountability Meetings on The Steamship CWB, with suppers served to all farmers. 60 thousand or so Albertans, 50T or so from Saskatchewan and 40T or so from Manitoba.

                  Menu a la carte

Striped Bass fresh from the ocean. We can be flown in on those new Government jets that that last delightful Liberal Prime Minister bought. Say, groups of 50 at a time.

How many can we seat on this ship?

rbrower, you'd better change your vacationing plans for next year, so we can meet on the old Ship WheatBoard, and put our feet up and watch the money flow.
