We were thinking of expanding onions and carrots westward. Very limited acreage here for doing so... From my super quick research some of the areas you named have heavy clay soil though? I don't get it...

Yup the Marquis area can easily grow 70bpa of almost anything and when it rains there are potholes ....all that ground would have to be tiled .....the dryland guys won't tile because of the cost....so how will they justify putting up pivots....

Nope, it goes all the way up north of Perdue to the North Saskatchewan River, and west to Zealandia.

Even the cash rich Saudi government is getting out of irrigating worthless grain crops, and instead is buying and building infrustructure where it can be produced cheaper. Maybe the SK government has plans to grow oranges and mangos in Saskatchewan?

Yup and then Chrystia Freeland opened her big mouth and we don't sell much to the Saudis now....

The Saudis shittcanned their irrigation ...it will be a hard lesson for the saskparty to learn the SPUDCO fiasco...morons.

How is it that governments never learn from other administrations failures? No one I talk to thinks this is money well spent.The $4B should have been spent on drainage projects and would have made land that is productive now with no irrigation even that much better. To spend that kind of money to grow low valued field crops makes no sense at all.

Excessive moisture, especially here in the NE causes the loss of more revenue than will be gained by irrigation in the westside project.

I couldnt agree more, drainage here in the Red river valley region is very good, if it wasnt we couldnt grow much after one too many rains.
