We have heavy dew again today and it cooled down nice last night. Plants look like they recovered very good but we still have 10 more days of heat.

Farming where you can grow a crop on 4 inches with timely slow rains. But miss the last one and yield is lower.

Those areas that are really wet have shallow roots and the Sw is going to be 5 C higher than our area. Heat stress will happen.

But our Ag minister was almost giddy yesterday on TV talking about all the rain sask received in July and we are well on way to a bumper crop.

With dewy mornings disease pressure will only increase. According to the “specialists” a late fungicide could save the crop and boost yields.

I sprayed all the wheat and i think it was worth it this year. Yes, the yield will be affected with the heat but shit is happening in the crop. Fungicide on Canola was a total waste of time. Glad I parked the sprayer early.

Yesterday we had a high of 96 degrees F with a nice 30 mph SW wind. Crops that were green last week are turning now, whether we like it or not. Anything on stubble does not look good . Rubbed out a few durum heads on some durum stubble (had lots of groceries thrown at it I might add) and the kernels are almost dead ripe and shriveled bad. Summerfallow crops will not be far behind if the wind and heat keep going for another 10 days.


For all you guys that are tired of F%^&*#g rain , I will take some!

we are getting the worst of two worlds here
3 miles north of town 75% of crops gone from the hail , rained every second day since hail storm
2 miles south hasn't rained since weed spraying, crops going backwards
probably 12-14" north
probably 3-4" south, no hail

No knee pads or grease needed on the SeedHawk, he doesn't need 6 tubes of grease and half a day to grease his drill like the Bourgaults.

Bins will be rattling around here after this harvest. Hot and dry makes me cry! No joy in seeing crops suffering all friggin year. Even year crappy, just enough to let crop insurance off the hook - maybe.

Could be another year of feed shortages especially hay in the south. Even the nw here hay crops no screaming hell but every chunk of grass getting knocked down. Every antique pos running down ditches making hq hay. Too cold in spring and old stands don’t make big yields. Grain guys here are seeding greenfeed and doing well.

Not to make light of anyone going through drought (been there before), and we definitely will be loosing yield as well, but in our area in SW Sask, the heat is somewhat welcome. The durum is finally being pushed into doing something after nearly sitting still for the first 2 weeks in July. After the past 2 late harvests and having snow on crops, I wasn't looking forward to the strong possibility of another late harvest.

Only place crap insurance will payout is if the entire farm had real bad hail and you're below your coverage.

It's a win-win for insurance companies.
