“Scoular Selects Idaho Site for Barley Facility: The Scoular Co. announced yesterday that it has selected Jerome, Idaho, as the location to manufacture a sustainable new plant-based alternative protein made from barley. Scoular will build a 15,000 sq. ft. facility to manufacture the product, called barley protein concentrate (BPC), for use in aquaculture feed and pet food. The operation is expected to begin manufacturing in May 2021. Scoular, based in Omaha, Neb., selected Jerome in south-central Idaho because of the proximity to its grain producer customers and end markets for its manufactured products. Idaho is the leading state for barley production in the U.S. Initially, the new manufacturing plant is projected to process 1.9 million bu. of barley annually, with capacity projected to expand over the next several years. It also will co-produce a high-energy liquid feed supplement for cattle feeders. Read more HERE.â€
