    1870 john deere drill

Anyone one here have one? How do you like it?

I don't own one, but quite a few around me. They seem to be a decent drill. Excellent germination/emergence. Rivaling the best emergence out there I would say. Guys that have them, seem to like them. The one comment that I hear from owners is that you better have your straw management done properly. They can make a mess if not.

One thing I have noticed, and I have no first hand knowledge of yield and such, is that crops seem to run out of gas in late summer/early fall. Just something that seems to stand out in my 100 km/h crop tours comparing crops. Maybe it is just me?

We have an 1870... with section control, 8-7' sections, 56': [dutch high pressure]nh3, deep band fert, and seed row triple shoot. Many in our area with 1870, some wider newer seed tools. Hard to beat these newer JD seeders... can put down any fert combo needed... without hurting seeds with fert burn [good fert separation with one pass spring]

Serious question: have they evolved much since John Deere acquired Conservapak? I never followed them.

Are they available in 10 and 12 inch spacing? If that matters to you.

              Liquid, gas or dry fert?

Lots to think about when buying a drill.

Probably zero options for openers. But we are probably the only people with two inch spread tips on a 3320....we have 4 inch round packers. V packers limit opener options.

Oh yeah, we had a neighbor who had a ConservaPak when they were still ConservaPak and boy was their field finish rough....just saying.

Two options for seed openers, I like the single point seed opener for minimal seed bed disturbance...
we like 12' spacing. Few 10" sold. If you like narrow spacing with spread seed tool then this is not your seeder.. zero till low disturbance with straw clearance is what we want...
Some folks go 4" or more with the deep with deep band fert opener tool, the deeper the rougher it gets...

We roll everything to push rocks [smaller] back in ground for harvest safety of combine/to stop broken cutter knives... and then it is smoother too... handles rocks well with few broken tool openers [hyd accumulators that are adjustable on both seed and deep band openers individually]
